Phew

Long string of profanity, double the profane words and add a few OUCH and more cussing.

I spent all day in the garage working on the Elky. The intake has been removed and replaced with new seals. It ain't running yet. I pooped out after 10 hours. The lift is great and the AC kicked butt and kept me cool.

I know the small block was engineered long long ago. What drunk idiot came up with the distributor tied to the oil pump? I had a hell of a time getting the dizzy back into the proper spot.

Nope. Another secret of the brotherhood of real mechanics? I wasted a TON of time fighting with it. The same idiot engineer designed the hold down bolt. I have had the funny bent wrench for 22 years. I really really hope I will never ever need it again.

Gots me on o' them that hold down bolt wrenches. Right of passage in my family is removing a motor, rebuilding it, re-installing it, and having the vehicle run for long enough to tire of it and sell it.

Failed on my first attempt. First year away at college someone sugared my gas tank. What a mess, discovered it when it spun a rod bearing. Summer project was resurrecting the Audi. After all that work cleaning the gook out of all the fuel stuff and rebuilding the motor, discovered the hard way the units worn off the old torque wrench in my Dad's tool box were inch-lbs. instead of ft-lbs. It almost made 500 miles before literally flying apart.

Second attempt was much more successful. With he help of a few special tools and a New Torque Wrench. Full size 81 GMC Jimmy with 305 needed more power. Got a small block 400 with 2.02 heads free, built it up all hot rodded with cams, roller rockers, edlebrock intake hooker headers, etc, swapped out and sold the 305 for what the hot rod parts cost me on the 400. Turned out to be very quick for a big 4x4 AND got much better gas mileage than the anemic 305. 19 instead of 10. Drove it for 2 years before selling it to some chick. Not sure what the heck she was doing with it, but heard it ate 3 turbo 350 transmissions in a year. Maybe it was the lockup torque converter I put in, but I didn't have any problems for 2 years.

I didn't mind it at all. Just don't want to hear you complain when you get a ticket for reckless driving. This isn't the middle of nowhere (aka Oklahoma). I say let's take it to autocross and I can thoroughly enjoy it.

Silly man...

Mom says she like riding with me because I'm such a good driver. Then I say, "Except when I do this." and hang the rear out around a corner. She just laughs. Sometimes I think she says it right before a corner on purpose.

When i had my 914 my Dad and I worked at the same place so I took him to work. There is a really fun turn without any traffic right in front of the main office. People commented that they saw me taking the corner in my 914 on three wheels, then that my Dad would be just sitting there like it happened every day. I would just say, "Well...I does happen every day." My dad never said anything about my driving. When I had the big 4x4 took him 4 wheeling and he didn't say a thing, but a month later Off-roading magazines started showing up at the house. After getting the 914 and a month of 3 wheeled turns we started getting Sport Car magazines. But, he never actually said a word.

I've been pulled over for what would be considered reckless driving, burn outs, tires squealing around corners etc. but did not actually exceed the speed limit so just got verbal warnings.

Once the officer pulled me over because I got to the speed limit faster than he did. We the first cars side by side at a stop light. Accelerated as quickly as I could without spinning the tires right up to the 50mph speed limit. Told him didn't spin my tires, didn't go over the speed limit, and asked if there was some law or ordinance that regulated how quickly one got to the speed limit. He accused me of "F" ing with him, said he could follow me until I made a mistake, walked off, got in his car and drove away spinning his tires as he left.

One of the reasons I like the expensive ultra high performance tires is the rubber compound does not make near as much noise or smoke when they break loose like the cheaper tires do.

My dad taunted me about driving the Telsa in a "green" fashion the other day. I mashed the go pedal and settled that issue.

It was one little slide. . And it'd been so long since I'd done it that I was willing to take the risk!

The only thing I remember Dad ever saying about driving was..."If you drive too close to the outside edge of the lane you will get nails in your tires." ie., Drive off-line and you will pick up slag.

It's always a little disappointing to hit a cloverleaf ramp behind someone.

As long as there is no traffic and there is plenty of run-off or mistake room...didn't see or hear a thing, honest.

Morning, y'all.

Nice pics from your vacation, Jeff. It looks like a great place to hike around. Any cool looking critters out there?

Morning Jim, cheers.

They were just from Sundays Mothers Day outing/picnic. Was that a hint that I haven't displayed any pics from Tassie yet?

Only saw a few lizards, frogs, birds, a dingo and fish, I guess the snakes are staring to hibernate (fortunately).

We went out for a short hike in the Shenandoah Mountains for Mothers Day. The only critters we saw was one snake.
