The schools I went to had no AC but we did have fans. All of them had heat. We had advanced classes in HS biology and calculus. But you had to take a summer school classes to have enough class time available to take the advanced classes.
The current public school system doesn't seem to be focused as much on education as baby sitting. My Nephew's kids are in school now and they are sending their kids to private schools to get them learned up for college placement. A couple of them have big goals and were really motivated to get good grades and be involved in all the right activities. Parents didn't have to help or push much because the private schools were doing their job.

Our high school was build for A/C so none of the windows opened. They never did install A/C and it was against dress code to wear shorts. The girls could wear short skirts but the guys had to sweat it out.

The best part of going to school in Hawaii was no dress code of any sort. This was in the late 1960s and micro mini skirts were the fashion. I wore shorts most of the time and barefoot was fine.
Girls often wore bikini tops and skirts that were super short. It was distracting but I did not mind the distraction.

PAGING SID.
We are looking for some signage in the entryway of our building and thought about the e-ink signs. Any experience with them? We just need to display a first name and room number and be able to change it easily. LCD would be OK but then we would have to run power out there.

You can buy a cheap TV to do that as well.

We took the garage queen for a drive up to Calabasas and down Mulholland Hwy to the ocean. I love that drive! We wanted to stop at the Rock Store to get some grub, but they weren't open. Oh well, that couldn't spoil our outing. Now, back to work on the house.

We could, but we would have to run power and connect a computer or DVD single picture slide show with the names on it. A regular sign could be updated every day or two and e-ink doesn't need power unless you are changing it.

There's another little establishment close by, on Kanan Dume by where Mulholland crosses it, that is open 7 days. It's a minimart and small restaurant.

The options are endless. I have a friend that has a business putting ads in cattle sale barns and he has found a TV that allows a USB thumb-drive to be plugged in and it just plays what is on the thumb-drive. He also has it switch to TV mode during the livestock sale to allow the auctioneer to show the critter on the block.
Likely a product designed for a sign would be the best.

I was thinking easier and less expensive. We could put a touch screen out there as well and let people search for a first name as well, but someone would have to come up with a program and keep it up to date as well.
I guess it would be easy enough to put in a USB capable TV and have an image with the names. Not a bad thought Glen.

Alarick, you're probably right. I should've checked what days/hours the Rock Store is open.

You might be thinking of the Old Place? I've never been there but seen lots of cool cars parked out front, and some limos too. It's on Mulholland just a mile or so east of the Rock Store, just past the third cross street (first two you can turn left onto Kanan). Kanan only crosses Mulholland once, just above the overlook.
