Drove by the old homestead today. The appricot tree I use the gauge the last freeze by is gone. If it was flowering there was alway one last sleet storm to freeze out the fruit. Tonight we are getting some sleet.

Puppy Note: Pepper enjoys being out in the sleet. Pretty cute, she stayed close to the house under the eave until she just had to go pee. The she ran out into it, peed, and came running back in all jazzed up. Them she went back out to play in it.

Loved being toweled off too. Shouldn't take too much to train her to stop and present each foot to be cleaned when coming in from being wet outside like my other dogs did.

Her first english was "Hello." Rewarding two barks for hel lo. But she is getting pretty good at imitating the sound of hello. Get her to imitating the sounds I make and we are good to go for her learning to speak back english. Also sometimes when she starts to chew something she is not allow to but really wants to and I say no, she says no back to me. The stink pot.

She has also learned to dig her toys out of her toy basket. Now if I could just teach her to put them back. Haven't been able to teach that to any of my dogs yet.

Puppy is giving me something to do besides work since I can't really leave Mom alone for much more than an hour, and then only if she is sleeping.

Oh, and while I am typing this, Pepper is sleeping at my feet under my desk. When I watch TV she want to sit on the leg rest part of the recliner next to my legs. She has learned to jump up with her front feet on the front edge of the recliner and bark so I will raise the foot rest of the recliner and she can ride it up. When she is done and wants down, she hangs her head over the edge and barks so I will lower the foot rest down and she just kind of slides off. So freaking cute. My last dog liked to sit beside me in the recliner too.

Mertnin.

Just got back from and early morning sausage biscuit run on the icey roads. No traffic at 5am so was able to safely play on the ice. Stupid Cayenne on Michelin AS just drives around. Even when trying to floor it to slide around icy turns, it just lets off the egas and goes around the corner. Flooring it from a stop it just accelerated. Stomping the brakes it just slows down. To get the traction control to come on for any length of time had to put it in 4x4 full lockup with gear reduction and floor it. This is why I got a 4x4, the 2 days of winter weather we have around here.

With PSM off it did slide around a bit.

Cayenne is now all winter tested so I'm ready for Spring.

Good morning.

The HR department at work texted me and said the roads are fckng slick and to just stay home. I resisted for a couple of micro seconds but relented. Mrs Carrera is off work as well.

I just watched the movie Jaws from 1975. I have not seen that since 1975. I took a date because I wanted her to snuggle close during the scary parts. She about made me bleed from her fingernails digging into my arm when they found the small boat at night that was all beat up.

I recorded Jaws 2 & 3 to watch as well. I have never seen those movies.

a little bit more, actually, by design. a few years ago, we had a withholding SNAFU and ended up owing nearly $3K. it was painful. since then, i make sure we get money back and i don't really care that it was an interest free loan to the feds. owing them that kind of coin was enough pain that i never want to experience it again.

The company I work for over 20 years ago changed my dependents to less than zero. No explination. Owed almost 3000 instead of a refund. And being a young buck into buying computer stuff had zero monies in savings. Went to company HR and Comptroller and Treasurer and complained that they changed my withholding to a negative number, they basically said tough. I was so pissed my W-4 had the correct dependent and somehow someone had changed it to a negative number on the system.

The year before I had made a small mistake adding up the columns and got a letter from the IRS in Sept with 90 days to pay the $100 without penalty. So, conveniently made another mistake adding up the columns so only paid $250, figuring I had from April to Sept plus 90 days to save the rest of the $2700 I owed.

Saved up the $2700 and made sure I had an extra $2700 in savings for the next 10 years just in case I was audited. Never was.

Because of two things that happened during that time, I am highly suspect of the company treasurer.

First, at the time I was did a custom database to do the scheduling for the foundry our company had purchased. Part of my job was to go delete the completed orders to speed up the program. At first I thought it was odd because it was a very simple task. Then found the foundry manager would take me to lunch to tell me about how the treasurer was screwing with the finances making it very difficult to do his job. They were double and triple paying things like the gas station guy that maintained the company cars, and failing to pay the vendors they got their raw metals from. Then told me about the treasurer telling him he worked for him, and he said no he worked for my brother until told different. Told me he just needed to vent and to not tell my brother about it. The treasurer had our parent company do all the foundry's accounting instead of hiring a very small staff at the foundry. So, once a month I got to go hear about how this "upstanding christian man" was screwing over the company foundry because he didn't like the manager my brother hired. Company ended up having to sell the foundry because of it.

In my spare time, at that same time I also did a database program for the USPS and the US Postal Worker's Union to help the track and resolve grievances. This "christian" treasurer made a comment one day that he didn't like me doing that work because it would help that Union, and he did not like Unions. I made the comment how did he know I was helping the Union and not the USPS. Was actually hired by and being paid by the USPS because they felt they were being taken advantage of by the current paper based grievance system. The local union was excited because it would make their job a lot easier. They both reviewed everything I did.

Anyway, that was the year my withholding was messed up. What would you think, coincidence?

Also made a custom database to track and build quotes/sales and logistics for a company that sold new and used coal, gas, and steam powered electrical generator power systems. A couple of years later I put myself out of that job by moving the database to Filemaker and teaching them how to setup and edit things themselves.

Ah, the early 90's

Ah, the good old days of when I loved programming. Did a db for some friends for their cattle business when I was in high school back in the 80s when there wasn't much processing power or storage capacity. In the late 90s to early 2000s I worked for a company that had a proprietary database. We tried to make some hooks so you could tie in Oracle or MySQL/MSSQL or an ODBC but the "off the shelf" databases just couldn't handle all the relations properly and they were really too slow.
