If you use the press on labels on the optical disks you could lose the data in under two years. We have some disks that are close to 15 years old that are still readable. For our pictures I copy them to an external drive and put them in the fire resistant safe at mom and dad's house. We also print a surprising number of them.

Takes a LOT of work to get a good Digital Asset Management system set up and running with proper metadata entry so the assets can be found quick and easy. Heck just good DAM software can be very expensive. That was part of the scanning of the company I work for's founder's photography collection. You not only scan the photo, you add it to the DAM system AND put in all the metadata that allows it to be stored, cataloged, and found again later.
Interested in seeing what Apple's new photo app does.

One of the tings I liked about Ancestry.Com is they will store the photos on their system. Anyone interested can peruse them and even download the photos to their tree.
Only people I authorize can edit the information. It is kinda cool to know other families have never seen a copy of a photo with their relatives and now they have a new connection.

Well, brother just dropped by and he read and executed Mom's will. According to the official will she gave me any ownership in the house (to remove her from the warantee deed) and everything in it and split any money up between the surviving kids. Brother said he thought I was being very generous to honor the stuff that had been labeled and give everyone the opportunity to take whatever they wanted. Said I didn't have to do that.
Oldest brother should be very happy, his part is more than enough money to get his cataracts fixed. Don't let anyone know I'm such a nice guy. Oh yeah. When brother came in the house today, Pepper ran up to him and said "Hello"!!!

Had a doctors appointment today and told him the news about Mom. Talked to him a bit about it. He said he thought it was more than just coincidence she passed just a month after the dog and getting the puppy was the best thing I could have done for her.

After 31 years of dog ownership, having a dog for me is a given.
You can probably tell I really like my dogs.

Evening Y'all
When my mom passed a couple of years ago she left my dad in green fields so far as finances go, but he is retired from the state, a second retirement from the sheriff's dept and social security, he is not wanting for anything money wise. Well when my greedy stuck up older sister found out about it, she made a comment about being glad she is the executor of dad's estate, and that was the wrong thing for her to do, since dad isn't a dummy and knows exactly what she had planned. He came by the house not long after words and told me that I was now in charge of his estate and itemized things he wanted certain people to have and the rest is to be sold and split evenly between my sister and I, would I be able to handle it the way he wants it done, Yup, no problem, then he whips out the papers from the atty and said sign here. My sister has not said five words to me since then, greedy *****. I am going to get a sizable spoon collection that is already slowly making it's way to my arsenal. Dad will just roll by and throw a spoon at me for no reason. At least I know there won't be any surprises from my family about this, since the screwed up ones are already known,

To the left,
I assume you are making the best of your retirement. Thing is when you have to go back to work it really sucks. I hated to go back after I took a couple of months off, but then again I don't like what I do anymore so that was no surprise

I'm just starting to really relax. Enjoying hanging out with my not so mini mini-me for the last couple of days (he's had some time off work to be with us). A nice long walk beside the indian ocean today, and tomorrow we're walking around the caravan and camping show (not that we need much camping stuff, but there's always something new to look at).
We're busy enough though, an engagement party Friday, birthday party Saturday, lunch or dinner (waiting confirmation) with old friends on Sunday. Nothing planned Monday as yet, then staying with my older sister for a few days Tuesday. A few more friends need to be caught up with sometime next week.

I'm not enjoying city driving - indicators are optional and random no notice lane changes are a standard requirement.

I can't wait for retirement (10 more years) I plan on getting the camper out and seeing the USA, and doing what Outback is doing.....just catching my breath, and catching up with friends. After 45 years of work, we deserve a break.

Sounds like standard operating procedure around here.

I figure those new fangled cars being sold today have optional turn signals. Even high end Mercedes S series and BMW 7 series must charge extra for turn signals or every blink is tallied on the computer and something breaks after a few indicated turns.
We could balance the city budget fix all the roads and give cops and firemen 100% raises if they gave tickets for failure to signal. The California highways were some of the worst about that. It is like using a signal is a sign of weakness. Good hump day morning!

And I've had quite a few idiots tear up behind me I've been waiting for the click as they hitch on to my tow bar.
What is it with these boneheads? Why do they think you're going to get out of their way if they come speeding up behind you and sit a foot off your bumper? If it's supposed to be intimidating it's not working, dickhead! Btw, morning gents.
