You will have to learn to stare at your shoes, and unless you are an real extrovert, never look at the other guys shoes. Then you will be an engineer!

I just calculated (with my CPA's help) the estimated taxes I owe for the first quarter 2018. I really wish EVERYONE had to write a check every 1/4 for taxes. They would see how much they really are. Wow, what a reaming. Somehow just having it deducted from a paycheck and seeing the taxes as just a line on the pay stub it does not hurt as much. I need to go get a large gallon size KY jelly from Sam's club. OUCH!

I don't like this year's taxes. I pay about the same percentage every year but somehow every hear they change how we have to enter W4 information I end up withholding about $2000 less so I have to pay. I don't mind paying taxes if I get some back. End up paying the same % of my income every year, why can't they figure that out?

You can tell liberals control the taxes. Every time money changes hands it is taxed. Except when you are giving it away.

I won'r discuss my views on taxes, or I will PARF all over the thread. I just know I pay a stupid high percentage for a guy working hard on providing a comfortable living. The state just passed a new tax and spend bill for the teachers, and they are still striking for more. They work 9 months per year with 3 or 4 weeks off at Christmas, spring and fall break and other holidays. My property taxes are over 2 grand just for schools.

Jim, did you move? I heard it was always sunny in SoCal. Or is it that it never rains...

Head down to Palm Desert, or hot and Sunny El Centro and you will be happy to be grey and gloomy. EC will be up to 101 by Tuesday.

We might make it to 60 today, but so far, that's still a dream...it's 58.

Most of the people on the planet think California is what is shown on TV, beautiful beaches and beautiful people. I remember vividly our drive from San Diego up to San Francisco. Of course it was typical San Diego weather as we left, and the first stop was in the middle of California and it was 100+ and nothing green in sight.

I also remember my trip back from Monterey, CA and coming through Boron, CA. Wow, that place made Needles, CA look nice a vacation spot.

No doubt, California has a beautiful coast, and a lot of great countryside. It has some places that make the Oklahoma Panhandle look great!

Did run an errand and topped up tank and tummy around noon. Enjoyed driving the Turbo despite the gloomy day.

Still wonder why some people seem to insist on driving 10 to 15mph below the posted speed limit.

Having lived there I can tell you parts of CA are hot and dry and brown all year round. We had a date tree and they were good if I remembered to water it now and then. San Diego was a nice place to visit. Yuma had a good ribs place and a nice spoon range. It was hot and dry and brown as well. They filmed Star Wars not far from where we lived. Interesting people though. The Salton Sea stinks like you wouldn't believe some days though, so hope the wind is blowing the right way when you drive by.

Moved to OKC when I was six months old. Parent's got another house that we moved to just before my 2nd birthday. It was 6 miles from the first house. The barber I went to until he retired when I started HS lived next door to that first house.

Did go to Stillwater OK for college, but had to come back home to help Mom with Dad and his health issues. The same day my Dad passed my brother had his first big MS attack. So stayed to take care of the house while Mom went to help with him. For 2 years Mom and I took care of his youngest son, HS aged. With MS he couldn't handle a rebellious teen. Got the son straightened out and his Mom, my brothers EX took him back. Brother's current wife then divorced him because of the MS. Mom and I took him in.

When bro got to where he was wheelchair bound I bought a handicapped accessible home. Moved Mom and brother with MS into my house. It is a whole 6 miles from my Parents. Sold parents house and gave the money to Mom. By then Mom and Dad had gone thru all of Dad's retirement and the house really didn't sell for all that much.

Lived in first house for a year and a half. From age 2 to age 36 in the second house. Lived here for 22 years. So have lived within the same 6 miles basically my whole life.

I'm not the only one. When in HS there was a fancy burger joint 3 blocks from school. They had great onion rings. The place moved around town, They now have a place 2 miles from my house. Went to get a burger and rings the other day and the guy that took my order was the same guy as when I was in HS. Their burgers, fries, and rings have not changed since I was in HS either. Well, except for the price.

A friend of mine bought the house 50 yards from his parents house. Share the same entry drive.
