I hate you all. Those prices make me cry!!! That concrete house looks similar to a bunch down here. In a good Miami hood, they would be at $500k or so if it was a 4 bed. Even if you go WAY south of downtown, you're STILL going to be pushing $200k.

I want a $50k house!!!

Congrants!!! That house looks beautiful. I love old houses. I'm about 4 years into my first home and couldn't be happier. What part of town? I'm in the Broad Ripple area and have lived in this area (in older houses) for 32 years, aka since I was born. I'll have to keep an eye out for you. Glad to see another car guy in Indy with good taste in houses!

Edit: I just noticed you posted 40th and Meridian. Awesome area! I love the houses in that area. I grew up at 52nd and Broadway and am now at 56th and Allisonville. I'll keep an eye out for you, we're practically neighbors.

David, the oak floors are wonderful in this place. They have a nice dark cherry finish! The house is located on 40th and Meridian (this is the quintessential smallest house in a nice area, which at 2800sq ft is still pretty big). The kitchen has slate tile in it...which will probably be a pain in the butt to keep clean, with the texture. As for the basement, I was thinking about doing tile down there, or even etch the concrete with one of those concrete stains. The 2nd level has a few little random rooms...one of which I plan to turn into a library, with built in bookcases on the walls.

Here's another house that I was looking at, but decided to pass on. It is a solid concrete house, with 5 levels on 2 stories. It was a WEIRD split level design. Lots of unusable space, but it looked really, really neat. The living room had 15 foot ceilings in it. It was listed two years ago at 225K, last year at 125K, this last winter at 95K, then 84K. It SOLD last week at just under 59K!!!!!!!!

That house went for 59k!?!!?!?!?

Wow.

Nice, congrats Sir. With a house you'll find all kinds of yard utensils you'll have to buy that you never though of. Even if you hired a gardner.

Thanks guys! Everything went well...well, it's still going on. Closing took 1 hour, I had an hour break, then I rented one of those Mitsubishi-Faso turbo diesel trucks to move all of my stuff). That was at 1200pm, and I am still moving. I have one more trip, and then I have to return the truck tonight. WHEW. what an awesome whirlwind!

Speedracer, PM me sometime and we'll get together!

I was 25 when I bought my 911, and 28 when I bought my first house so you're in good company! Most would say that I probably should have done that in reverse order, but I'm so glad I didn't.

My goal was to buy my first house by the time I turned 25. I was two weeks late on that. I made very little money then, got my folks to cosign and then found roommates to pay my mortgage for me. I made a lot when I sold eight years later. Paid off my 993 with enough to put 20% down on my next house and then some left over.

You can do this in your 20s if the house is 60k. Here in CA that's still the down payment, if you want to live anywhere decent.

I would love a 60k house too - in CA, please.

George

George, you don't want any house in CA that's worth only $60K. $60K isn't even a down payment in any place you'd want to live.

Congrats to Embraer.

I know. I want Embraer's house here in L.A. In a good neighborhood that would be 800k+

In a good LA neighborhood, a house like Embraer's (minus about 1000 sq ft) would go for $800K. A house like Embraer's with 2800 sq ft would easily be over a million in most decent neighborhoods. At least for a house in move-in condition. The only ones I've seen at that size and at that price are REOs and pre-forclosures, which often need a couple hundred thousand to be made livable.
