VW Type 3 SB

The Wife wants an old Beetle but I want her/me to have a Squareback or Notchback. What do you think?

Notchbacks are uber expensive in the VW world right now. Squarebacks will be a little cheaper and probably easier to find.

Notchbacks are waaaaayyyyyyyy cooler though.

I bought a brand new 1968 Fastback. I loved that car. Went everywhere and did everything. In 1973 I bought a brand new Square Back. That too was a great car.. The rage is to own a notchback, and trying to find an IRS model is tough

If I hit the lotto I'd do a squareback with a 993 motor and suspension and it would have to have polished Fuchs.

Boy, that blue SB with the Empi 8 spokes works for me. So does the earlier model lowered red SB.

And yes, those NB are cool

I think if the Wife wants an old Beetle, you should get an old Beetle.
You can not 'win' by getting her what you want.

The NB's are very rare; they were not imported by VW, so they're all 'gray' cars, so to speak. There are very few around, so they are more expensive.

VW only imported the SB and the fastback to the US.

I had a '69 squareback. Killed alot of brain cells breathing the CO. Blew out a spark plug - that was fun until I got it heli-coiled. Good times.

Those things are fugly to the average person. I can see the attraction of a bug - unless your wife is a VW nut, you can only go wrong with this suggestion. She wants a bug and you buy her something that looks like a TRABANT station wagon. "Look honey, it has the same engine and lay out".
