So far the the show isn't "lawyers in space" as much as it is "rich guy getting what he wants... In space".

What?!?!
|
I think Zoe's attitude comes from the tension between she and her Mom. And the younger viewers will more readily connect to her situation. I also think her character is supposed to be more enlightened and genius. Kind of what her Dad said later in ep 2.
I dig the show. Will give it a more time and I bet it gets way better. There's a LOT of character development to get through, too. IRRC, it's 58 yrs before the fall. How many years does Caprica's story take place before the 40 yr absence of cylons? Remember at the beginning of NBSG when they were waiting for the cylon annual meeting? The scene where the hot blonde in red dress walks out?

Been thinking about this concept since even before Caprica:
It looks like even though the real human Zoe is dead, the consciousness of her has been transplanted into a computer. And it looks like she has a mechanical body as well. So is Zoe still in existence? To her dad, in a very real sense, yes, if you consider existence to be all about thoughts and cosciousness. So that would imply that someone can live forever, as long as they are able to 'download' their consiousness to another computer/mechanical device before their current computer/mechanical device expires. However, since the 'new' AI Zoe is simply a copy of ALL of Zoe's thoughts, then the real Zoe is gone. Though her thoughts have been captured in a computer, the real Zoe is dead. (Side note - if her brain were actually transplanted into a cylon -- that would be a different story.) Thus, for the person (Zoe), life has ceased. But for those around Zoe, she still continues to be - and develop. Applied to the 'real world:' If such a thing were possible (transplanting my thoghts and consciousness into a machine), then to others it may look like I am still around, but if the true me were to cease to exist, to ME, I am dead and onto what lies beyond this world, this existence. Thus, immortality cannot happen - death is inevitable. On a side note -- one thing I did not understand in last week's episode is who the computer Zoe 'knew' the real Zoe died. Why did she get all bloody? How was that connection established between the VR world and the real world. Discuss.... -Z-man.

And her being bloody I took as her, quite literally, projecting her thoughts. Remember the BSG episode on projection?

I caught the pilot on Hulu and like it enough to hope Hulu carries all the episodes.
I wonder if Zoe's alienation from her parents is the basis of the skin job cylons needing to be loved, and their belief in god?

Her friend who survived asked the question to the AI-Zoe in the avatar world. RW-Zoe was staying connected/continously updated, so that AI-Zoe would continue to grow.

I just picked up something from re-watching "the plan". I know who becomes the Centurians. And it isn't Zoe.

It's during the discussion between the in jail discussion between "Fleet One" and "Fleet Sharon" after she shot Adama. She said she had to "make her self a Centurian, not feel her heart beat".
I'm pretty sure this connects with Tamara saying this over and over. I wonder if the "models" they eventually develop are similar to this. They pull in database information and make different personalities. It will be interesting if they explain the whole development, hydrids, etc. I need to review the "movie" with Young Bill Adama, and the episode where they find the old Basestar, where they hybrid says that Kara Thrace will lead the humans to their destruction. This assumes that these things are fully canon...The Starbuck stuff didn't really play out. Neither did anything with the "Athena" daughter.

Well, i didn't watch again. I saw it coming on, looked at the remote in my hand- debated internally for a half a second, and shut it off.
This show just doesn't interest me. |

My biggest complaint is it appears each "season" is about 10-12 Episodes. This is how BSG lost a lot of people.

The main problem with NBSG was all the plot lines that were started, but never explored or in any way explained.
In the end, i just viewed NBSG to be a big, convoluted and contradictory mess of a show. |

Just watched the new episode last night. We have a nice set of seemingly complicated plot lines to go on here:
We have the ass of a father, Greystone, trying to build his killer robots. The dead-computer-daughter who is ridiculously messed up. The daughter's friend who's completely lost. The Adama boy who's learning about his family past. The ass of a mother, Greystone, who cries a lot. The teacher, who is in some multi-marriage group sex-house I take it. The other father, Adama, who doesn't know how to take car of his son. And Adama's brother, the mafia hit man who also turns out to be gay. I found the neatest thing in the episode to be the few bits of actual world-building that there was- the sporting event and the CG stadium which looked really neat.

Like it so far. It's been a bit predictable (except for the train explosion) but fun to watch. Better than 99% of the other stuff on!
