Leland,

You can check your VIN here:

RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog

Based on the VIN stamped on the plate your bike is a R75/6 European model built in september 1974 (first month of production)

You should not use tubeless tyres since the spoked rims are somewhat porous.

As for the seat cover, try here:

Waiting on my first parts order to arrive. In the mean time, I'm trying to get my garage wired for 220V so I can hook up my air compressor. I've got a sand blaster and am hoping to clean the frame myself.

Once I get the frame painted I can start putting it back together. I'm rebuilding the brake system and am replacing all bushings and bearings.
Every piece of rubber is being replaced. Every bolt is being replaced with new SS hardware.

By the way, does anyone know where I can find one of these solo seats???

I like this much better than the stock seat.

Any ideas?

Found the seat... looks sweet, but for $360, it'll have to wait until after I've had the tin set painted.

I had Corbin make me a seat. I think it was $329 delivered. I love it. I did two 400 mile days in the last week and two 650 miles days on it in November with no problem.

Heated? Here? Why? I rode back from LA yesterday, snow on every mountain around me and was fine. Never had a heated seat before.

My grips are heated and love it. The Corbins offer a heated seat on some models and just wondered. I do not ride in the cold very often but the heated grips are nice at times.

I've been working on the bike during the evening. I finally got my first order of parts from Max BMW. Here are some photos of the progress. Both carbs are rebuilt. I am now working on rebuilding the shocks. One of them looked like water or something nasty had gotten in the tube. All the rubber bits had disintegrated and everything was nasty. The other tube was spotless.

I also have cleaned every subassembly with degreaser. The triple tree bearings were a SOB! And getting the races out of the head tube was another PITA!

Tomorrow my buddy and his electrician brother are coming over to wire my garage for 240V so I can hook up my air compressor.

Here are a few pics:

Also, I found a guy online who sells these nifty SS bolt kits specific for your bike. This makes it real nice to put a sub assembly back together. Nice and neat.

Very nice!

Do you have the special wrench for the exhaust and so on? If not I do and glad to loan them to you.

Just an update.

I went a little crazy and ended up pulling the jugs off the case to replace the pushrod seals. Now, I'm bead blasting the heads and spec'ing the valve guides and bores to make sure they're still in spec.

Everything looks good, so far.

The big hold up right now is the weather. It's too cold to paint and I can't start putting stuff back together until it warms up enough to get outside and media blast the frame.

I've been keeping myself occupied in the mean time by polishing all the aluminum bits I can get my hands on.

Also, I thought I'd share some photos of my dad on the bike when it was brand new.

These photos were taken when my parents were stationed in Germany from '72- '74.
