Advice on bicycle maintenance/repair workstand, please.

Hello boys.
I would like a stand that is sturdy and fully adjustable. The weight of unit is not a problem. A plus would be that I could stand while working (I'm 5' 10") but that's not a deal-breaker. So far, this one appeals to me - has the features that I want. Can I get its features/qualities at a lower price? I don't want just a clamp.

Ultimate Support Pro-Elite Bicycle Repair Stand

Ultimate Support Pro-Elite Bicycle Repair Stand - OneTri.com - Shop Triathlon Gear: Triathlon Wetsuits, Triathlon Clothing, Helmets, Wheels, Bikes, all the best equipment and apparel.

Is this the same stand as above?

Pro Elite Bicycle Repair Stand by Ultimate Support: Police Bike Store

Bang-for-the-buck could be the word of the day, I guess...yet I'm willing to pay for superior quality.
Thank you for any assistance.

Regards, Becca

I, too, have a Park, had it for decades, works really, really well. Lifetime investment.

For Quality, you can't go wrong with Park tool. I own 4 bicycles and do all of my own maintenance and tune ups. This stand is lightweight, durable and easy to adjust. The legs can be folded for storage. The stand can be adjusted up and down. and you can rotate the bike 360 degrees. The clamp pressure can also be adjusted. Mine is the PCS- 1 model which is about $150.00 new, but you may be able to find one on your local Craigslist under the bicycle section for a used one. I found mine at a garage sale and got it for $50.00 so the deals are out there. One last thing. If you do get a stand, DO NOT clamp it to the bicycle frame. Use the seatpost. You can crush a bike frame easily if the clamp pressure is too tight. Good Luck!

I have the less expensive park tool stand PCS 9. Do not buy this model, it is a POS.

Ultimate is now Feedback sports.

< -- I work for them.

Please go and look at a Feedbacksport stand before buying anything.

If you go to a bicycle race 75% of the stands will be Ultimate/Feedback.

Even TREK's mechanics use FEEDBACK, Trek owns Bontrager.

Their mechanics don't use them.

Park makes nice stands.

Feedback is the yardstick that all others are judged by.

first off the stand is 13# and will support a 80# bike at 6'!

It folds up rather small so that it takes up little room.

It's jaws are replaceable.

The clamp force is only 1.1# for every 1# of force that you give it. (Someone else's clamp CAN give 7:1 force which might harm some frames or seatposts. (Always clamp on seatpost, to avoid damaging a nice frame)

The red triangle button is pretty slick, hit it and the jaws POP open.

The have another slick feature, the jaw has a clutch head, place the bike up in the clamp, SLIDE the jaw shut, tighten and you're good to go.

If you have a garage, workbench and vice, you can easily make your own stand for less than $20 in parts.

I briefly thought of a workbench clamp, David. But then I wouldn't be able to hang my SKS in my living room.

Park makes great stuff.
However, I have that ultimate model in the original link, It's worked very well, AND, you don't realize now how much you will appreciate a workstand that folds up when you want/need to get it out of the way. They take up a lot of real estate, and, unless you're a bike builder, the stands spend much of the time unused, it's nice to fold them up and stick'em in a corner.

You know, I want to start doing my own maintenance on my bikes. I'm really getting tired of going down to my LBS every time I need something.

So Jim, is there a kit available through you that can start of the home bike mechanic? Like a stand and tools, etc.

I'd be interested in that.

Here's the toolkit I use. I've also added a couple more specific bottom bracket tools and a full set of metric allen wrenches. And a bunch of spray cans of degreaser and tube of grease.
LBS's are great and I would always champion their support, but come on, if you can wrench on a Porsche, you can wrench on your bike right?

Derailleur adjustment used to be Greek to me, but once I came to understand it, and how simple it really is, I can reach down and adjust the derailleurs while riding the bike.

I'll recommend the Ultimate as well. I wrenched in and managed shops for 10 years while putting myself through college and my wife through grad school. Park stands have no equal in the shop. That being said for the consumer the Ultimate stand is the one to have. As someone else already said the Ultimate will fold up no bigger that a large gun case and can be stood in a corner or tucked under a bed. I've owned and used my Ultimate since right after they came out in the mid 90's. Still works as well as ever.
