True? Maybe, maybe not, depends on where the rust is... rear shock towers: world of hurt. Fenders: buy a new part for $80 and weld it on... Pedal box: meh, in between. All in all, it is a rust prone car but not too expensive to repair if the rust is in the right spots...

The one i wasn't expecting? The trim belt on the car requires clip holes all around the front and rear lids. The metal is folded on itself and a clip hole drilled through it. You CANNOT clean rust there - in the fold - it'll just return later. New engine or trunk lid? $800-900 a pop ! Ouch ! Or buy a clean one from california ! ($250+ horrendous shipping)

Here's a link to my car's rustoration if you are bored or mildly interested. Note the small rust bubble on the fender, and let your jaw hit the desk as you see how much metal was removed to get it out !

PS: there is something likeable about those cars... people smile, wave, "had one"... Not like driving the Porsche (which most people assume is super expensive), and yeah, it's tail happy like you wouldn't believe ! on a wet road, that thing wags the tail more than my Labrador !

I lived down the street from a family whose two kids had 2002's-she an auto, he a Tii. Before that the boy had an AAR Cuda. The dad had a MB 280SE 3.5 convertible. They wish they had those cars today.

My 74 Alfa GTV Bertone had them trumped in the cool department.

So, these things are kinda like Series Rovers??? I know a guy with ~30k in his Series IIA and it's worth about 10-12.

I wouldn't buy it to flip for profit, but it'd be a heck of a fun car to have, I actually almost bought one instead of my rover.

Hey, now that the thread is more or less resolved and we contributed all the important info, would you mind expanding on your statement ? I've read similar comparos and thread on 2002 vs GTV, and generally, the GTV wins by a whisker, on account of being more soulful or "that engine" ;-) the bimmer's generally thought to be a hair faster but more "german"... I'd like to hear more from you, if you got the time, since you sound fairly unbiaised towards the GTV...

just curious... I stil have not shaken the GTV bug ;-)
