Targa,
Forget all the debbie downers, YOU did the right thing. Yes it's sad that it will leave the family, but the fact that you put it for sale means a lot of it's value to you. Your a good guy.

Of course he is! But since he has time to make thousands and thousands of posts in off topic he is by default smarter than the rest of us.

Let me be nice Targa U were a complete FOOL for putting that GUN up for sale without checking on its status...as a controled item...It could have remained buried in the back yard forever. However once you made the move to advertise your hands werre more or less tied...either get an attorney as your advocate or call the BATF...Doing nothing and selling it might have landed you in stir...

So that means I pay $200 to keep it, and $5.00 to transfer it ...? Or what? Mine does fit the bill here. |

PERIOD! and theres a REASON! for the the general safety of the public. and guess WHAT??? I'M THE PUBLIC! who the HELL wants some mental case freeking RETARD/METH HEAD/FELON in possession of a class 3??????????????? i totally support your call to BATF. i would DO THE EXACT SAME! im lucky if i got 25 years left on my enduro meter...........i aint spending it behind bars for a STOOPID ILLEGAL GUN or PART! crap all i have to do is set up my living trust will and i can LEGALLY OWN/POSSESS CLASS 3 anything. |

Every time I've ever tried to do the right thing involving a government agency, I got screwed handily. Lets face it, the people running and working for these programs are incompetent. They could care less if you're trying to do the right thing. Its just laugh material for them on their next watercooler break. As anyone in any eastern european country will tell you: Lay Low. Its no different here. You make waves and draw attention, they're going to come for you.

So even though I have reported it and I am waiting for them to set up an appointment to come and get it, am I in jeopardy?

Remember why we have the BATF and a lot of these stupid fed. gun laws. The Nat. Firearms Act was passed in 1934 because the repeal of Prohibition left a lot of Treasury agents with not enough to do. Silencers were actually included here because the Great Depression was so bad that poaching livestock was a concern and silencers made such poaching easier. We got an update to the law in 1968 after the assassinations of the last few years. Can anyone claim those laws have cut down on crime in the least? Banning machine guns didn't put Al Capone out of business. The IRS did. Now, where BATF is a needed agency is in the area of bomb investigations. No one knows more about this stuff and they have the experts and the database to really solve some incredible crimes. But the gun law stuff is total BS.

I don't get why anyone would be beating up on targa911S for this; given that he had it for sale on a public site, what he did subsequently was the only reasonable course of action.
Whether you think the BATF is a bunch of bozos or not is really not the point... when the bozos have the ability to make a case on you and throw you in jail, you do what you have to do. What's to second guess here?
