I have an old Wakmann (ties to Breitling) triple date (date, day, month), chrono, with a Valjoux 730 manual wind movement. It's going to Ebay soon. Any interesting trades?

I have one I bought in Disneyland in the early sixties, made in Great Britain.
Still works.

I think it is poor manners (at least in a business) to pull out your cellphone in front of someone else to check the time. The same goes for not setting your phone to vibrate when you're indoors. That is why I wear a watch.
I like new cellphones and all that they have become, but I have trouble taking anyone seriously at work if they don't wear a watch or at least carry a pen.
And in the same vein, they are status symbols much like cars... I can't respect anyone as a professional when they drive a Kia Rio or wear a timex ironman watch to work.

I am the vice president of an aircraft repair company with 3 offices internationally. The contact list in my phone includes names from Boeing, Bell, Sikorsky, and others. I rarely wear a watch, and when I do it is a Timex. I drive a pickup, and my wife drives a Kia.

So let me get this straight... in a world where fake watches cost $50 and affording a car means scraping together the payment, you judge people based on what they wear and drive? Really? Sorry, but that's just shallow.

So does my Invicta (or Citizen or Seiko)/Mazda combo rank me somewhere between the Timex/Kia guy and the Rolex/BMW guy in your world?

I guess I'm worthless since I drive a 2002 Ford and the strap of my watch is a Timex

I think people that drive a Porsche and make fun of nice watches are pretty silly.

That is wrong on so many levels. The Rolex is meant to be worn. Day and Night. On mountains and underwater. The abuse these watches can take is enormous. I cannot imagine taking off my Rolex and putting on a TH in order to "spare" the Rolex.

I bought my current Rolex Explorer 20 years ago and it looks like new. I've only had it off twice in that time in order to get serviced. Just wear the damn thing.

I'm going to agree with Dottore on this issue. They're are incredibly well made and durable machines, I know several gents that wear various Rolex models daily while in Iraq/Afghanistan and never have an issue.

I finally decided to jump on something. It's certainly not the most expensive or flashy, but it has a humble classiness and the price was far enough within my budget that I'll probably buy another watch to keep it company in the rotation. It's a Rolex Oyster Essex, unsure of the manufacture date, but well before my lifetime.

I paid $950 for it, recently serviced. I have a bad feeling that this is just the beginning.

Nice Sinn, Rick. Perhaps we should change this thread into (or start a new one entitled) "What Watch Are You Wearing Today" like the one on F-chat.
