This seems like a nice watch. And free shipping!
Who spends $500k on a watch?

500K for a watch would seem to make some folks' point here. |

I've owned four Rolexes. First was a unique color combo Datejust with Jubilee bracelet; the next was a black bezeled GMT that resembled a Submariner; the next was a Submariner; then the next was a Submariner. At differing times in my life, when a new toy would come along, I would sell one. I can honestly say they're the only toys I have ever either made or not lost money on.
But now, as age had changed me I guess - I still miss my old '90 Cherokee - I don't care about hanging that much coin on my arm. I'd rather dump it in something else. I don't poo-poo the guys that do buy and wear 'em, 'cause I still like them very much, but I am happy with my Invicta that sort of resembles a Rolex Daytona, never needs winding, will never cost me several hundred to service, and if it breaks will be thrown away in all likelyhood. Oh, and I don't have to keep it on a winder. Yes, I'm too lazy to wind a watch.

And to get back to the original point of the thread, yes, there are a lot of poseurs who wear Rolexes out there and think their 20 year old two-tone Date Just is worth more than current retail. Craigslist is a battle zone. It really is a good idea to buy a first Rolex from an authorized dealer. But if you want to buy used, check out two sites. The first is Timezone.com. Go to the Sales Corner for used watches of all types under $5,000. Go to TZ Showcase for watches over $5,000. They have nice brand forums for all major brands, too.
TimeZone: Sales Corner For a smaller but gentler Rolex-only site, try The Ultimate Rolex Forum (TURF). TURF - Powered by vBulletin Good guys hang out there. A few of them even drive air cooled Porsches.

With all the watch experts here I have a question. I won a $1,600 Hamilton watch. It is in the box and came with the receipt. I thought this was a crazy expensive watch but after reading some of prices you guys are paying I guess I was wrong.
My problem is I'd like to get rid of the watch. I'm not a watch guy and after trying it on I felt like I'd be walking around with a 2 pound weight on my wrist. The store wouldn't take it back or let me trade it on anything. They said the return policy had expired. Can someone tell me the best way to sell this thing. I thought about ebay or but I'd figured there might be a better option. |

Timezone, hands down. Hang out in their forum for a while to get a good feel for the value of the watch, then place an ad in the Sales Corner. Don't sell to anyone who doesn't have feedback or you don't meet in person. I bought a very nice Omega Seamaster Pro Chrono there. I sent the guy a check and he sent me the watch after the check cleared.

My younger sister lives in Denver with her husband. I love her dearly and Roger her husband is a great guy.
He's a very successful guy earning a high income. They were here for Christmas and when he saw my "new" Sub Mariner he said... "At that price I would want it to be able to make me time travel as well!". He shook his head in disbelief and smiled to himself. I could tell he was amused at "my foolish endeavour". A few nights later they were going out and I offered to let him wear the watch because they were going to a formal occasion. He accepted with a shrug of the shoulders and put the watch on. It fitted his wrist perfectly and I saw a smile beam across his face as he looked at it on his wrist. Meanwhile they have returned to the US and just the other day I was chatting with my sister on Skype. Roger came and sat next to her and I couldn't help but notice a shiny new watch on his wrist. My sister told me he bought a brand new "Sub Mariner" shortly after returning the US.

One of my old copilots was flying back in Russia a while ago, in the early 1990's just after the Berlin Wall fell. His Captain had a few drinks and got into a gambling game at the casino in the hotel, and was not doing well. He called the copilot and asked him to come and try to get him out. Seems that the people he was playing cards with were not going to let him go without some substancial money. My copilot took off his steel and gold GMT Master and handed it over, and they ran out. The Captain took him to a Rolex dealer the next week back in Berlin and bought him a new one. Joe A

I got a call 5-6 years later from the owner of the company he had worked for the last 30 years. He was about to retire and they wanted to buy him a diamond ring. I told them that like myself, he did not wear jewelery, but that he did really like my Rolex. Thought that they would buy him something like I had. Got a call a month later and it was my Dad. He had just retired and they gave him his retirement gift. It was a 18k Rolex President with the bark band. Except for the version with diamonds on the dial, it was just about the top of the line. You could not get it off of his arm, he loved the watch. Years later when he was in the hospital dying of cancer he took the watch off of his arm and gave it to me. The staff there had stolen his wedding ring and he did not want to lose this. I still have it and wear it from time to time but its still his and always will be.

If you can wear one of these for a while. Not a fake but the real thing. Have a look at the latest Omegas. I promise you they would go well with your spoon collection.

I had some very good advice from this forum when refurbishing my dads old Omega Speedy. It was gifted to me this past Christmas and I wear it every day.
The movement is a work of art. This is one found online.

![]() I post this pic every time this pissing contest happens. Look at that picture and consider the about the actual size of that machine. That is why some people like mechanical watches. Others just like expensive watches. Can we just clear something up about TAG Heuer. Heuer was one of the old Swiss houses that went bust following the Japanese quartz invasion of the 70s. TAG (or “Targ” as it is amusingly called) is an acronym “Techiques Avant Garde”. This company is a design house that purchased the Heuer name in the 80s. I have one of the first TAG Heuer watches, from about 1984. TAG aren’t a watch company, the are a design and marketing house. They don’t make anything except advertising. There is speculation as to whether they even meet the strict criteria for a Swiss watch. Its only in recent years, following the resurgence in interest (and money being spent) that they have marketed mechanical watches, using Swiss ETA movements (same as found in the good Rolex fakes) . And some of the current TAGs are very nice mall watches, they compete with mall Omegas. But TAG Heuer should not be confused with the original Heuer. TAG is a fashion brand, sadly so is Omega these days. Im not really fan of what Rolex has come to represent- but we can pretty much thank it for the fact that the mechanical watch still exists as anything other than a curiosity.

![]() I remember that thread billybek. Excellent. This is what you will find in a 1952 Omega Seamaster. Which you can buy for a lot less than a bling TARG down at the mall.
