I got my XD subcompact 9mm about 4 weeks ago...love it. I've put ~600 rounds through it, all FMJ. Nearly everything goes into a baskeball size group at 25 yards, straight out of the box.
The only other pistol that I have put lots of rounds through is my Springfield 1911 .45. Love it too! The XD is my first 9mm. My gun shop guy tried to sell me on the Kahr CW9 (for less money!) due to it's slimness, but the XD fits me really well with the 16 rd mag. and isn't too bad with the 13 rd mag. And I like the grip and trigger safety set up (although I would like it more with a 1911 style thumb safety).

I think you would enjoy the longer barreled XD's/XDM's or Glock 17/34 over the short barreled stuff for what will likely be a range gun initially. You could still carry the longer weapons in a law enforcement application. If you later decide to compete in IDPA or similar type defensive pistol competitions, you won't have to buy a longer gun to be competitive.

Tim, The class is aimed at someone going into law enforcement... anyone can take it.... I'm studying to be a pill pusher(I already work in a Pharmacy).
If I do carry at work it will be concealed. Outside of there I will carry concealed occasionally. I'm a little guy. The SC will difficult for me to conceal as it is. |

When I used to carry my Glock 23, I often wished I had a decent sub-compact. On nice days, I was often forced to slip a S&W Sigma .380 (pos) in my back pocket, because I couldn't conceal the Glock. That XD looks like a fine weapon, I would seriously consider it in .40 if I started to carry again.

Everyone has different opinions an needs, but I would probably rather have a smaller LCP or Kahr to carry for work in a pharmacy.... For the range and fun shooting, I would prefer a longer barrel if it were my first and only handgun to start with. I guess I am trying to say that after a year or two, you may find yourself buying a smaller gun for easier more comfortable daily carry at work in the pharmacy and if you enjoy going to the range, you will likely want a longer barreled gun for that.

Maybe so time.... But thats a bridge I'll cross when I get there... At the time I need one that will serve double duty. I don't really see purchasing another spoon till I am out of school... At least not a hand spoon...

If when you say bitone you mean the stainless steel don't do it. Mine rusts even when it is in my dehumidified safe after being clean. Springfield will refinish the SS part to get rid of the surface rust for free but it keeps coming back every year no matter what you do to it.

I have an early XD40 service. It has been a great gun. Zero malfunctions. I would carry it anywhere and trust my life with it. Carries very comfortably in a TT Gunleather IWB.
If you know what you want check out CDNN Investments for prices. They don't list guns on their website. You'll need to call. They typically have very good prices on Springfield Armory pistols. J |
