scott,
lr-24...we had a couple of old 23's..even serial number's 009 and 016, but both had had fuel systems updated to model 24 specs (23's had 7 electric fuel pumps). ck stands for 'connie kalitta'..his son doug owns kalitta motorsports and races top fuel dragsters. yep, i was a freight dog for some years before moving into air-ambo work in lr-25's, 35's and a 36xr. seeing your pic brought back memories. i miss it sometimes..once you leave it, i'm sure as you know, you lose your currency and everything else. you're only as good as your last flight hour. i instructed for some years prior to that and every once in a while will drive out to the little local airport and consider that again..but i usually don't get out of the car..i just watch from afar for a little while..

I'm 35 and trying to keep up with my 8 and 10 year old boys makes me feel young and then old sometimes after they suck all my energy.

Ryan,

Flew for the factory for many years and have a lot of time in the old 20 series birds. Love them but not their fuel burn nor small cockpit, but they still bring a smile when I see one.

Used to fly 008, its now in the Pima Air Museum. Was with Louise Timken, the wife of the founder of Timken Bearings. Grand old dame, and could still fly the Lear in her 80's but we always put an experienced captain in the other seat just in case.

Just so Bill does not feel alone on the boat...

On the boat in the Med, sailing between Kos and Athens a few years ago...

joe,
neat story! ha! the fuel burn was terrific, right?? we used to ignore the fuel gauges in 009 and 016 and went entirely by time on a watch. every so often we gave a truck driver or two a lift who'd done a one way haul back to el paso from detroit. one mexican fella i toted one time had never even BEEN in an airplane before..stuck him the left seat and talked him through the final 2 hours of the flight down to about 500 agl before i took over to land in the middle of the night. you should have heard him carry on in spanish on his cell phone later on the ground. i swear his feet were still 2 feet off of the ground. he swore his listener didn't believe a word of his story! here's a pic of me and airshow pilot bobby younkin..he even does an airshow in an old lear.

I think Prof. Crick, co-discoverer of DNA helix, said it best, 'As we get older our bodies age but our (healthy) minds are the same as when we were younger'. So my body is (aging) circa 1963, but my mind is forever young (circa high school/college). Sometimes don't know what I want to do when I grow up, but I still enjoy the same things I did when I was younger. And she (they) still enjoys me too.

Am sun burnt, forehead is peeling, but must go out and enjoy the sunshine. And you guys make me want to work harder, earn (learn to pilot) faster Porsches (935 or 962 )and Cessnas (402b).

I still have butt ( I mean turbo) on the brain!

Regards,

When this thread began I said this:

33 as of last month. that makes me feel more 32 ish.

--------------------------------------------

I'm now 36.

I just have to make sure I double the fun I'm having to make up for the 2.5 years I wasted in a lame ass relationship.

I'm 27, but getting married 1 1/2 years ago, a neck injury with partial disability, and unemployment makes me feel like the end is near.
