So what about that North Korean team.

Can someone explain to me what they are doing in the World Cup? How did they qualify?

I was asking myself the same thing last night, I didn't even knew they had a team. They managed to sneak one by the Brazilian defense who by the end of the game were just walking around.

They beat Mongolia, Jordon, Saudia Arabia, UAE, tied South Korea and Iran (and lost to Iran)

As far as this thread goes - typical and the attitude may be one of the reasons that the rest of the world despises us.

608 million watch the final of the last world cup - 98 million watch the superbowl (and out of that 48% say they enjoy the commercials more than the game) - But clearly the rest of the world is wrong and likes to watch boring soccer.

Soccer sucks, do you want us to apologize for it?

How did they score against Brazil is more like it.

The modern game is very defensive in nature and all about possession of the ball.

The result is lower scores, and frankly, to the uninitiated - a boring game.

Yes, we find a perfectly pitched baseball game thrilling, but a 0-0 soccer match (and the winner decided by a shoot out) is worse than going to the dentist.

I like you and all ... but come on man. Give it a rest.

You must have something better to do in life than visit a soccer thread and spew your hatred for the sport.

It is pointless and takes the enjoyment out of the discussion for the rest of us.

A local radio talk show host had an hour about the WC. For every fan who called to talk about the teams and games and so on, there were ten who called just to say how much they hate the game. Some were very angry that the radio station would dare to talk about soccer. I guess this country has two favorite past-times: watching baseball, and hating soccer.

It's a different sport. You best understand that.

F-ball doesn't and never will compare to real football. It is only the same in name and nothing more, which is a disservice in its own right to true football.

But even with that, it's ridiculous to think a game about 4 downs with a 30 second break between each, timeouts, 2-minute warnings and commercial breaks to sell fried chicken, burgers, beer and antifreeze is somehow more physical than a 90+minute competition where for each half of 90 minutes (45), there is no true rules-oriented stoppage.

Soccer is a sport of endurance. Football, hardly. It's day camp with designer drugs, pads and helmets. I don't care what anyone says. Hell, tennis is more grueling than American football when true physical agility and endurance are called into play.

"Hittin'" means nothing, IMO. I can hit a door with my hand. So what! But I can't dribble like Messi or fire off a goal like Cacau. That's real skill.
I played 3 years of college soccer - I love the the sport don't get me wrong. It is a fast sport that requires serious skill. I really know nothing of Tackle Football prior to my Son developing a true love for it. As I learned more about it I came to understand that it is a very different sport which on the surface can be slow paced at times yet trust me when I say this - it is absolutely controlled mayhem and very violent. Even with pads on - which IMO makes it even more dangerous. I can play a game of soccer and be winded or I can play a game of tackle football and be winded and very sore (in sometimes bleeding).

I have been slide tacked in soccer many times and been kicked in the leg, balls, butt, gut, face and back - yes it hurts. It is nothing like being 'double-stuffed' as my son calls it - thats when one hits you high and the other low in opposite directions. Even when 110lb and 130lb 11 yr olds do that to you it really hurts - I can't image a beefy 230+lb linebacker coming at me.

Trude David - different sports, I love them both for different reasons. perhaps we shall to agree to disagree?

Seems like i'm just one of many chiming in here. I don't hate soccer though. I just think it's boring.

Sorry to unload my yellow rain on your cornflakes though. I'll be nice now.

About the NFL, the average collision at the line of Scrimmage on any given play is the same as being in a 30mph car crash. Now imagine 60 of those a game...

Back to the SUBJECT AT HAND.

Spain just got dumped by ANOTHER underdog. They've only lost 2 games in YEARS (50 games), and both were to vastly weaker teams. They just got put on the chopping block...

Switzerland earns any accolades they are given.

Ask them. Their Beloved Leader decided that he wanted his country to win the Cup, so he personally built the team, trained them, and had them qualify. They're so good that they have a player that is not only the best striker in the world, but ALSO the best keeper. Yup, he's that good. you won't see him play, of course, because they signed him up for one position in the 23 man roster, then tried to put him in the other position, and FIFA got mad and banned him. We all know it's because FIFA is afraid of having someone THAT GOOD on the pitch.

The N. Koreans have been a humorous addition to the Cup this year based on the interviews and reports I've read. The fact that they almost held off Brazil just makes it even better.

Same here. F-ball has its place, soccer its place. That's all, really.
