My company stock is up $10.00 per share-WTH?
Our stock has been rising over the last week or so. It's up $10.00 in the past month.
![]() Some of my co-workers were talking about it splitting soon. Is the split going to make it more valuable? I'm not able to purchase it yet but I will in a few weeks, I believe. I'm not into the stock market so sorry for the simple questions. Thanks.

Don't know much about it but usually if it splits two for one then if you buy 100 shares @ $10.00 you'll end up with 200 shares @ $5.00 a share. So in a sense it is more valuable because it will rise again and you'll have double the amount of shares. I think also stock will split in different ways.
Better minds than mine will chime in I'm sure.

The psychology of stock is to keep it under $100 a share. The thought is that $30 stock seems like a bargin compared to $120 stock.
Berkshire Hathaway is the only one I know of that does well without splitting.

Stock splits add no value to your company. All it does is change the price people have to pay for a tiny sliver of it. Makes the sliver smaller and the price paid smaller, but nothing else changes.
James you can add Google to your list as well. I don't think they have ever had a stock split in admittedly a short timeframe. Although they have mentioned a desire to follow in buffets footsteps. Actually the B shares of Berkshire split big time (like 20:1 I think) when he bought burlington northern.

The trend seems for stocks to go up a bit just after the anouncement of a split. After the split they tend to go back to where they were before the announcement.

some companies rather not split to keep the perceived value of a share high. google is nipping at $500's. apple is in the $250's.

I recieved my letter on buying stock today. We get a 15% discount on the stock and purchases are made every 6 months. Payroll deduction is the way it is done.
We already have our 401Ks set up but should I jump into the stock purchase program? What % should I have deducted? I know very little about the stock market but I do know that we are strong and will continue to grow with new aquisitions and increasing regulations on the medical industry(sorry docs.) Thank you for any advice you fellas can provide.
