Three German Shepherds here, so I can definitely relate...Although it's a ton of work to keep up on, it's easier to just clean it up a couple times a week than to clean it off your shoes once. Plus, you don't have to worry about the dogs stepping in it and tracking it indoors.

Its not the best for plants but what the heck - if its your property dump the 'dump' but keep in mind that the smell of 50lbs of pooch poop might get a little ripe. May wanna throw some lime on it from time to time.

So....no concensus it seems. I toss, bury and bag depending on the mood, I guess. We have an English Mastiff pup (114 lbs at 9 mos.....should be 150 ish full grown) a 75 lb Golden Retriever and a 70 lb mutt. Do the math....that's some pile o' dukie. Yard is big enough that you can't smell anything from the house, or even in the yard....at least I can't. But, you gotta keep after it. I hate finding a mushy pile with a big ol' mastiff-sized footprint in it.

Wish I could find a way to turn it into fossile fuel. A lot safer than drilling in the gulf.

Girl?

Had a couple. They tend to like odd stuff. Apples believe it or not. The boy was only partial to Grannie Smiths while the girl was less discriminating. We'd leave a bowl out and they'd help themselves.

The boy liked grapefruits as well. We'd toss them to him whole. Don't recommend doing it inside though, can get messy.

You using a big dog feeder or otherwise raising their bowls? The mastiff should be eating/drinking off of something at least 12 inches high.

And for those of you spending a fortune on monthly heartworm meds, look into purchasing liquid Ivermectin from a cattle/farm coop. About $50 for a liter. Same ingredient in HeartGuard. Only takes a few drops once a month orally and is the same protection. Can't OD the dogs on it (well a gallon could I suppose), it has an indefinite shelf life. A liter will treat an average size dog for about 213 years. But you didn't hear this from me.

If you don't believe me, check here for Heartguard active ingredients:

wow! i am going to forward this to my brother!! he is a slave to heartguard.

as for the dog krap issue. i bag it up with grocery bags, and toss it into the garbage. i dont have a dog now, but when i did, i just considered it a cost of doing business. i wouldnt huck it over any fence. still too close for my comfort.

now cat schit? that permeates the plastic of my garbage cans. they are scented forever. gross.

What about burying it? I always wondered why not just dig a hole a couple feet deep, fill w/ DS and re-fill hole. Wouldn't it de-compose underground and become dirt or mulch?
You can, I used to. They (whomever they is) sell doggie septic tank buckets but I'm sure you could just make one out of a 5 gallon bucket.

The Doggie Dooley works great until you fill it up because your dogs crap too much. Then it turns into a big brick of dog poo.

This whole ivermectin thing has mesmerized me. We spend a lot on Heartgard and may have to test this out on the dogs. These are the dosages provided by HG tablets:

Up to 25 (lbs.) 68 mcg
26 - 50 136 mcg
51 - 100 272 mcg

Wonder how easy it'd be to meter these out correctly.

Chasing tails...best $10/week I spend. Some kid comes every Friday, scoops it, bags it and leaves my pooch a bone tied to the door to let us know he was there.

I live on 1/3 of an acre in suburban jersey with 3 young kids and a trampoline in the back yard, can't leave his D.S. layin around...

Mike Rowe, of TV's Dirtiest Jobs fame, who has sampled more unsavory occupations than most, says there are two types of work mindsets; employees and entrepreneurs. No matter how unglamorous the job (e.g. sexing chickens, rendering dead cows, etc.), entrepreneurs will rise above the task and take advantage of the experience. Pass along my admiration to whoever created that poop-scoop biz.
