The spoon for McQueen fans
Anybody remember the cut down winchester '92 McQueen carried in the "wanted dead or alive" TV show?
Rossi making a shooting replica, in hand gun calibers....sold as a hand gun, it's 24" long with a 12" barrel. 6 shot lever action, available in .357 mag/.38 special, .44/.44 mag, or colt .45. Sold as a handgun! No pics on Rossi's website yet, but it was featured in the latest AMERICAN RIFLEMAN. Rossi is now owned by Taurus, so it should be well made. Called the "ranch hand", price is around $600. Practical? Hell no...but... How cool it would look on a 911 package shelf in a special holster similar to the one McQueen wore in the TV series.

Nice scanning...thanks! So, what do you guys think? .44 mag caliber, or go with colt .45 for the "old time" thing?
Hmmm, I also wonder, since it's sold as a handgun, would it be legal for handgun hunting?

No stamp. Not an SBR. It's a pistol.
Look up "mare's leg". IIRC there are a few other models out there besides the Rossi. I would pick .45 LC. I'm starting to become less of a fan of .44 mag these days.

The deciding factor in lever gun selection between these two calibers can often be as simple as the twist rate. I'm not sure if Rossi still uses it, but Winchester and Marlin are a bit stuck in the past with regards to this specification. They use a 1:38 twist in the .44 mag, which was standard for the old .44-40. .45 Colts get a 1:16 or 1:18 twist. The very slow twist in the .44's did an adequate job of stabilizing the stubby little 200 grain bullets of the .44-40, but is far too slow to stabilize 240 to 300 grain bullets. The faster twist in the .45 Colts is far better suited to the heavier bullets. As a related aside, both calibers' common handgun platforms all use the faster twists, as do .44 Special handguns. So, check the twist rate of the .44. If it's the old 1:38, the .45 Colt will be far more accurate. And, if you are a handloader, the .45 Colt is a bit more versatile. All that aside, that has to be one of the most absolutely useless firearms I have ever seen. But I want one. Bad...
