So sad, I didn't know of his fear of flying. We live within miles and I could've helped him get over this in a different way than experiemental aircraft.

This isn't a good lesson for those with phobias. This is a case where he should have listened to that voice in his head...or just stayed away from small planes!
At least he died facing his fears--not much of a life if you hide away from any risk.
I feel very sorry for his wife and those he left behind.

My FIL was in the process of selling his Piper last year. He totaled it on his last flight, but walked away. In my eyes that was a big win.
