Show Your Knife

Curious to see what people have as their favorite knife/ves.

Doesn't matter if it's a pocketknife, kitchen knife, fighting knife, tool knife, specialty knife. If you really like it, use it, value it, then let's see it.

I guess we'll draw the line at swords and sawzalls.

But for attracting the ladies, only a cold steel katana will suffice!

Here is one we have that was made and used by my Uncle during the war. The Sheath was made from boot leather and the aluminum from a Japanese aircraft which he carved in the islands that were visited and laced with dental silver wire. If my Son gets deployed to Guam I would like to send this with him!

my backup pocket blade:

and there is no substitute for a patina'd high carbon blade. both of these are my ghetto blade i use to take apart large animals. they stay in my truck. these are the only two blades i can shave with. i got one for $5 and one for free. the only blade you want to yank thru a femur or ribcage needs to be cheap, long and sharp.

Doh! I'd love to show my favorite knife but it happens to be stuck in a tree in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area at the moment. Forgot it there on August 22nd while swimming/eating lunch. If you happen to find yourself on Mudro Lake anytime soon there's a knife identical to David's Columbia River knife stuck in a tree about eye level directly across the lake from the campsite. I'll be back next year to see if it's still there. I wonder how it will whether the coming year?

daepp 10-04-2010 10:00 AM

Nate - were you canoeing with the Scouts? I have heard about some great trips they have up there!

n8marx 10-04-2010 10:02 AM

Not with the scouts. Never was one but plan to get my boy into scouts (he's currently 3). Just something I do annually ever since I was 12. I love it up there. Next to my living room it's the other place I feel at home.

Arkansas stones. It's straightforward and somewhat Zen-like once you learn how to do it properly.
