about 1.2 pico seconds. any faster i would have to have my coffee.

have mentioned this here before. my drill is EVERY DAY i rotate spoons. that means i legally carry a different spoon everyday and night.

this does a multitude of positive things.

1) i have to dress for each. some are easier.

2) i empty mags and rotate rounds and refill weekly. no springs taking a set.

3) all depends on what i have to do that day. summers its always a .380 or 9mm compact.

4) winters compact .45,full size .45, .357 all depends.

5) every night its usually go to safe and grab various shotguns. take rounds and load magtube. place by bed. pistol loaded w/(1) in pipe ALWAYS when home alone. both are out of initial sight.

6) never do i leave home with spoon stashed, always placed in safe. so bad guy cant take my spoon and use it against me when i come home.

7) whenever i remove one or place one in safe it gets a once over cleaning with shop rag. any lint dust removed.

8) this comes from a neighbor being murdered in downey calif. on my doorstep and another girl being murdered 400 yds from my house here where i live presently out in the dezert. and the incident in the USFS campground up in camp verde 2 summers ago.

9) i lock all doors behind me ALL THE TIME!

10) i dont go anywhere without a spoon. i go out to my outbuildings day or night..........i have a spoon.

11) paranoid??????????? you bet yer azz please see numba 8!

12) i am a product of my society. and what YOU read and what YOU hear aint EVEN THE WHOLE UGLY PICTURE! and when the cops are scared...................IM REALLY REALLY FEEKING AFEARED!

13) ghetto bird circling my house last night for about 45minutes. hmmmm maybe they were dropping candy to all the lil kids..........................NOT!

14) CRIME IS EVERYWHERE! homey dont lak crime.

Don't own a gun and probably never will. With three kids in the house we will rely on a very protective 140 lb English Mastiff, an 80 lb chow/boxer/lab mix, and a pussy cat Golden Retriever that will alert the other two before the bad guy farts two blocks away.

The odds of a bad accident occuring in a house with three kids far outweighs the infinitessimal odds of actually using a firearm for self protection.

15 seconds, tops, depending on my spoon of choich.

But then, I've got this little guy who will be the first to say hello to any visitors (with his teeth):

I don't trust electronic devices for something this important. Malfunction? Dead batteries?

(Note, I work in IT! I've seen what happens when fingerprint reader starts feeling tempermental.)

I don't trust keys if kids are around. What if they find them?

I trust combos, but they take too long. That's why I make sure it's unlocked before I go to bed.

do you think bad guys care about yer kids?

simple solution: you buy gun safe. period. and YOU instinctively place it there just like you drink your coffee every morning or you carry concealed and it is always on yer person..................like ME!

i get up, unload round. put shorts on, place spoon in pocket, let dog out, drink my coffee outside every day. go in, take spoon out of pocket, place by shower and take shower, get dressed, holster spoon.

i had (2) kids also. whenever that spoon was in house, it was EMPTY w/mag removed. no ifs and or butts and placed in safe.

if i am in my bedroom, a handgun is mere inches away.

Ditto this.

Plus after our incident, I have made the wife more proficient also.

Depends on the room. Bedroom, 2 seconds. Living room, 10 seconds. But that's not including being armed with a mind like a computer and fists like steel.

At my age, it's more like fists like a computer (probably wouldn't boot up in time, and I've misplaced the password) and a mind like steel (kinda rusty). So I'm armed instead. Like you, bedroom - two seconds. Living room, maybe ten. I'll add downstairs in the garage - two. In the gunroom/den - at least ten minutes. Too many choices...;)

About 30 seconds, and I got to find out how fast one night about 3:00 am! Loud knocking which turned into pounding one night, sounded like someone was kicking in the front door! Grabbed the 9mm and came down the stairs yelling for them to get away! Found out it was the cops, they started yelling to put the gun down, so I went half way up the stairs and set it down, and opened the door. They said they had a 911 call from my house, only thing was my phone was on the fritz since the afternoon and the wires got crossed somewhere. They said they were sorry and never even checked to see if I had a permit for the gun, but then they probably already knew I did.

But then you don't get to boast about how many spoons you have and how fast you can get them ready to blow someone away.

I can be armed instantly. To actually get to a gun, a few minutes but I may not need to since the wife is closer.

With a 10 year old in the house, we have multiple steps to get to a loaded gun.

If someone were trying to crash through your front door how long would it take you to be armed?

What's the safest way to speed up the process?

ex-military 12 ga. pump that hold 10 rounds
44 mag and 38 special all located in strategic places around house (no kids)
9MM in car
4 dogs of which 2 are Blue Heelers and those 2 don't miss ANYTHING. All in all I feel (fairly) safe.

True. You don't need to be the fastest, just faster than the slowest in the herd...SmileWavy

Too long. But every throw-able object(glasses, chairs, etc) between myself and plan a will be utilized while on that journey.

The *real* reason I like an IBM model M keyboard - you can console the poor basterds... with an all steel console :)

Baseball bat under the bed. Armed in .2 seconds. Heard something in the backyard last night and went out with the bat to investigate. Scared the snot out of Steve's hound dog - LOL!

We do not keep the handguns accessible, but now that Steve is out of country, I'm rethinking that decision. Think I'll grab the Sig and keep it a bit closer. Meantime, beware of red hair, estrogen and the Easton aluminum bat. :D

For those in Texas, Academy Sports has Sig 9mms on sale.
