heres the gig w/kids and spoons.
kids are curious. and thats what gets them killed. if you ACTIVELY TEACH FIREARMS SAFETY at a very young age and take them shooting. show them what a spoon can do....................they are no longer curious. teach them if they see a spoon at someones house to leave the area asap, and tell a PARENT ! i have had people/friends/my kids, state to me that "you act just like a range officer"............and I DO! i EVEN have a piece of TAPE STUCK ON MY SAFE STATING "ALL GUNS LOADED" none have a round in the pipe.......................but mag tubes or mags are FILLED! my dad was a 5 year straight south pacific combat vet and carried a .45 and a full auto M-1 carbine every damn day. he taught me from about age 5 about firearms safety. and then i have been involved in the shooting sports all my life. being strict, being ANAL, being SMART, being RESPONSIBLE IS NO ACCIDENT! AD's suck. but reality is they are not ACCIDENTAL! they are irresponsible spoon handling. i do not carry with round in pipe ever when hunting close to someone. i dont carry a round in pipe even when carrying concealed an auto. a wheel gun i carry on an empty cylinder. everytime i pick up a spoon i clear action/drop mag or clear cylinder. thats the way i have been trained and IT WORKS FOR ME! if hunting by myself in the middle of BFE, i will carry with a round in the pipe. i dont carry a round in the pipe in a vehicle or a quad. thats why PROPER TRAINING IS UBER IMPORTANTE! |
Everybody is Rambo. Sheesh.
A weapon and ammo in a house with kids is too high a risk. Train 'em all you want. Would hate to carry that decision with me the rest of my days if something went wrong. Heck...the guns in your house are very often the reason you're being targeted for a break-in. If 300+ lbs of dog(s) aren't a discouragement, I'll rely on 9-1-1. Would hate to unload into my own kid in the wee hours by accident. Oh yeah, that never happens either. |

Don't bullets travel through walls? Or do all you guys have bullet proof dry wall installed? :) |
Chocaholic, you have made a personal decision, as have the rest of us. Where you step over the line is when you try to tell others that your personal decision is the only correct one.

Hundreds of years of guns in homes. We, people are still here.
While taking CW class the instructor brought up the drywall issue. His advice: Be aware. If you are in an apt, a 9mm can go through many layers of drywall before stopping. A shotgun, not so much. Honestly if you are going to have a firearm in your home you should know how to shoot it. For you anti-gun people, I had a friend who woke up to a noise in the house. He walked upstairs to find a man pulling his infant son out of the crib. Shotgun in hand, he killed that man. I dare say there is not a single person on here that would not have done the same. |
My father in law shot a man in the face who was in the process of taking wife's younger brother out of a crib when he was a little tyke. I know a lot of people who have guns, almost everyone I know really. None have been involved in accidental shootings, ever.
Guns and people mix just fine. Guns and stupid, drunk or untrained people are not such a good combo. |

There are no kids in my house. I am armed in a matter of seconds. WAY less than ten. Someone'd have to dive through the window with me sitting right there, in order to accomplish a successful home invasion. Busting the door down would take more than one "hit." By then I'd be armed and calm. There is a .45 ACP about ten feet from the front door.

Time, depends on where I am in the house, but I'm never FAR from one..

Where we live I ask my wife why she always bother,s to lock the door. Your quality of life is sadly lacking when you think you need so many guns.
I can but wouldn,t have a gun in the house. I know a retired policeman who feels the same way. He told me he has investigated too many domestic killings and suicides in homes with guns readily available. |

just to mix things up tonight and be DIFFERENT....................... i declare it an HK USP COMPACT TACTICAL w/UTL .45 kind of night. UTL stands for universal tactical light. why? because i know for a FACT........................."NOBODY CAN DO ME NO HARM!" tomorrow night i just may get FRISKY and declare it a SMITH UND VESSON kind of night(hmmm tough to pick from that damn collection). why? BECAUSE I CAN! cheese and rice if those silly canuck lawmakers ever get their poo together and ALLOW HANDGUNS......................i'm moving there in a HEARTBEAT and OPENING A SPOON STORE and BUYING STOCK IN ANY AND ALL HANDGUN COMPANIES as there will be a rush on to possess handguns bigger than ANY GOLDRUSH! once again ................the HAVES and the HAVE NOTS! and as anyone with a brain KNOWS...............its better to have and NOT NEED, than it is to NEED REALLY REALLY BAD and NOT HAVE! p.s. my quality of life is just fine. |
I can have a gun at home anytime I want to bother with the permit. We can get a handgun permit fairly easily. A carry permit is also easily obtainable for a long gun .We do have hunters and farmer with the need to own a gun. A handgun carry permit is not easy to get. We also restrict magazine size .I think we also banned or at least restricted semi autos after a Columbine style University shooting in Quebec about 15 yrs ago. A bonefide collecter can probably still own antique military weapons but i don,t know what documentation/permits are required
. The biggest difference is I and most people here don,t feel any NEED what so ever. I have a winter home in Florida and other than the weather ,there isn,t much there any better than here.. Would you extend your interpretation of 2nd ammendment rights to allow children to carry guns openly to Elementary schools? They need to defend themselves against bullies don,t they? Quality of life with fear for your safety without a gun isn,t very high on my list. |

If it's a Republican, neocon or right wing Christian I can have them dead in less than 5 seconds, anyone else gets to ID themselves first while looking at the muzzle of my assault shotgun loaded with 00 buck. After all I did buy it to shoot cans. Republi type cans.

Charles Shumer doesn't carry a gun, but his bodyguard team does.

We had a very intimidating and protective dog (115lb male Akita) for a number of years. He scared the bajeezus out of strangers as well as many family and friends. Problem was, I trusted him with my life but was always a bit nervous about my own kids and in particular, neighborhood kids who might get into the backyard when I wasn't around. That would have been very, very bad. He died of natural causes and now we have an Aussie that barks when so motivated but I doubt he would scare anything bigger than a rabbit away. |
No knowing who the the burglers are, and how they get their information...
