What? Joe, what the heck are you talking about? You know better than that. You, of all people here know that the sun at a low angle on the horizon will EASILY reflect off the shiny fuselage of a large jet. I have seen it many, many times in this business - the same one you are in. Typically, while cruising at altitude while the sun is about to set, I'll see another jet momentarily flash a nice reflection of the sun back at me. I KNOW you've seen it yourself. It CAN be seen on the ground and is simply a reflection of the sun at a low angle. It's the exact same phenomenon that allows you and me to see the sun illuminate the underside of high clouds as the sun is just setting and for a while AFTER it has set.

The picture on the right is the mysterous trail, the one on the left is of the same place, almost exactly 24 hours later, taken of america west flight 808.
IT WAS AN AIRPLANE.

FoxNews.com - Blogger Believes Webcam Image Solves 'Missile' Mystery

PS I can't believe they let norma fly one of these things.

No, not green, and you are wrong.

If it was a missile, it would be faster.
If it was a missile, your "engine flame" would be there the whole time, not just part of it.
If it was a missile, it would be a lot faster. (leading to...)
If it was a missile, people would have reported a sonic boom.
If it was a missile, there would have been sightings of a vertical contrail reported by airline pilots in the area, not to mention any number of passengers with a window seat.
If it was a missile, there wouldn't have been another contrail, in the same place, at the same time, the next day.
If it was a missile, there wouldn't be vortices in the contrail. You can clearly see twin vortices in the video and they were specificly mentioned by the news dude in the helicopter. Vortices only happens if there is a wing creating lift, missile shots don't as there are no such vortices due to a lack of aerodynamic lift.
If it was a missile, there would be more photos/video of it, (It was in view of, by a conservative estimate, 1 million video cameras.) It wasn't, because at every other angle except straight on, it looked like what it was, a contrail from a jet.

Watch this video: Mysterious missile launched off California coast?

It it was a missile, the top of the contrail would be brighter (:10 to about :40 sec mark), illuminated by the engine plume.
It it was a missile, the contrail would be persistent, but it isn't (~:50 sec in the video, as it continues to approach the camera)

And anyone who thinks that was fired by a rogue state, put down the crack pipe. China wouldn't do it, (even if they could, which is in doubt) because the have no need. China loved taking our money to buy their crap, plus we already know they have ICBMs. Plus, the whole point of ICBMs is the "I" part. They don't need to get 30 miles off the coast, if they can hit anywhere in the world from China. Same goes for Russia.

Best Korea doesn't have the ability. Full stop.

It was an airplane. As was stated, most likely as I stated, US Airways flight 808 from Hawaii to Phoenix.

Aw shoot. I hate it when you have a good point. Of course the conspiracy gene kicks in and I think "maybe they duplicated the event the next day to cover up...

After watching the new video on the CBS website, I would now agree. The first video was zoomed and didn't show all of the perspective.
Re: engine plume. Engine plume is often obscured intermittently by combustion by-products when the angle of travel is up and away from the observer.

It was fun while it lasted.

From the link:
Quote:
Bloggers at New York Magazine weighed in with a whopping eight theories of their own on what might have caused the mystery, straying from the realm of the possible ("the military is just covering up its own missile launch") to the wacky ("a dejected Meg Whitman decided to leave Earth behind after spending $141 million of her fortune on a losing gubernatorial run").

Reality is so boring.

It is way more logical to think we launched a missile from 30 miles off of our own coast to nuke Iran and that aliens with their advanced technology destroyed it because they will not allow a war. Yea, that makes more sense that a regular old airplane.

I have been trying to play this down and keep it quite. But with all the hype and histeria I can not keep quiet any longer and this isnt the first time this has happened. I know what it was. It is embarrasing actually.

It was me. This happens after I eat Chinese. Usually after I eat prawn wit mix vegable or mooshoo pork. The last time this happened I was in NY. My flatulance knocked that plane over long island out of the air.

Sorry.

Well, we may as well cut the **** out of defense spending because it's not doing anything to save our asses. I'm not at all surprised at this, Bozo and the govt will deny vehemently.

A word of caution, from the CNN site, about the veracity of the information posted there... I quote them:

"iReport is a user-generated section of CNN.com. The stories in this section are not edited, fact-checked or screened before they are posted."
