Ice racing is a blast. I learned how to drive on a frozen lake in my stepdad's '66 Chevelle, the best was getting it up to 60 or 70 and just locking the steering wheel in one direction and spinning until dizzy. Good times...

It's a little chilly in L.A. today, I've got a flannel on over my t-shirt. Only going to be in the '70s today but spring is right around the corner.

Sure you do not want to get the 356 from him BEFORE posting this? :)

Thanks for the PM a few minutes ago. Will not tell you about the weather here in Arizona...

Joe A

Basking in the 72 degree sun, no wind, 300 mile vis. Thats why we live here! :)

I absolutely hate Michigan winters. I feel like I'm under house arrest. I try to stay as busy as possible to make the winter go by faster and prep for warm weather!

If I didn't have outdoor car stuff to do in winter, I'd move the hell out. Just going out and driving on snow-covered roads can be a blast in itself. When or where else on public roads can you drive sideways all the way to the grocery store ... and be legal :D You can't develop those sorts of reflexes on dry pavement.

Denis, this is probably a bit before that, but it's vintage Minnesota ice racing at its best.

I'd guess that photo was taken in '76 or '77

I worked with Morrie (Maurice Wagener) and he's a fantastic guy. He has a car collection to die for that rarely gets seen. That Saab or one just like it is still in his private collection, wearing similar livery.

Have watched many a race on the St. Croix River in the 70s and 80s.

Crowbob 01-22-2011 06:20 PM

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on some new shoes for the FJ Cruiser. Bombing around the unplowed neighborhoods (or to the party store for some nachos) on brand new Goodyear Duratracs sounds like real fun.

flatbutt 01-22-2011 06:31 PM

I did a coupla hours of snow shoeing today. Freakin' freezin' but sure was purdy.

P-O-P, you need to pickup a winter sport. I fondly remember the days of looking at ski magazines in August, jonesing for snow...

I lived in Stillwater from 76 to 82. Lovely town though overly-touristed last time I visited. Sad to see Brine's.

I go to Eagan every Thanksgiving, ironically, to visit friends from MA. Will be out this May I think.

Pipe broke. We had a convenient 35deg day just at the right time.

You are a doofus and your car is fugly.

Wilhelm 01-22-2011 10:46 PM

HA!! Just thought it might make some folks in the cold, snowy parts of the world feel better. ;)

Crowbob 01-23-2011 05:55 AM

Oh yes. Oh yes. -2F at this moment. After one cup of coffee, I'll don the survival gear, dig my way TO the garage, start the snow blower...

You definitely helped me feel better.

kaisen 01-23-2011 06:31 AM

It was -24F yesterday morning. That's real air temp, not wind chill. It's only -8F and sunny this AM so it's a heat wave. We're actually supposed to make it to 32F by Friday.

All summer I long for snow so I can get on the mountain, then all winter I long for warm weather so I can get behind the boat.

Sweet! That means the "warm" air will get to Michigan soon.

I don't know the exact temp(and don't care) but it's STUPID COLD right now.

Wilhelm-here's a collective "bite me!" from us freezing our behinds off.:D
