Best Winter in Years

if I were a kid, that is. Coldest, snowiest, suckiest as an adult.

that is all.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-22-2011 06:14 AM

This week is gonna' be really cold. I imagine it will get better after that. This is the worst. Late January/early February sucks.

Then again, it's a balmy 75 in my place and I've got plenty of indoor projects to work on so I'm fine. I have to admit I'm getting really tired of riding my bike trainer though - I really want to get out on the road!

Having lived in the South our whole lives. It is not nearly as cold here as it is there but I am still having a hard time. Until this year my 10 yr old son had never seen snow in person. We have had 2 good snow falls this winter. When I say good, I mean, 4-6 inches, melted in 3-4 days. He and his friends are loving it. I just sit inside by the fire. I have hot cocoa waiting when the kids get cold.

Woke up to -20*C this morning... when you say -4*F, it sounds downright balmy! ;)

livi 01-22-2011 06:33 AM

I concur vividly. The lack of light is the worst.

PorscheGAL 01-22-2011 06:43 AM

And I though 15*F was cold. BRR!!!

Joeaksa 01-22-2011 06:44 AM

Was chilly here for a week or so. Now back up to the usual high 60's or low 70's and sunny.

CurtEgerer 01-22-2011 06:55 AM

It only sucks if you don't take advantage of it. We'll be back out on the lake tomorrow ..... sunny and a high of 9 deg F. Perfect weather :D

Oh Haha 01-22-2011 06:57 AM

Cool!! Where are you guys running, Curt? Is it open to the public?

CurtEgerer 01-22-2011 07:13 AM

Ross Lake in Beaverton. SCCA sanctioned. Open to anybody. You should throw some snows on the 911 and come up!

Crowbob 01-22-2011 07:29 AM

Every winter is the worst winter in years. Seems like it happens every damn year, too. I'm already sick of next winter.

LakeCleElum 01-22-2011 07:37 AM

I've put over 80 hours on my tractor plowing snow since Thanksgiving.

Christien 01-22-2011 08:08 AM

3 1/2 weeks until I fly to Florida.....

Tobra 01-22-2011 08:11 AM

don't forget the sunscreen

I recommend phototherapy, in concert with malted beverages, or even better some Glogg and 45 kilos of finely toned blond companionship

I am going to buy a few bare root fruit trees, cherries and peaches, to plant on the 'morrow, hence will be manning a shovel presently

pavulon 01-22-2011 08:42 AM

Thurs. AM was -22F. Currently, +5F and snowing.

Wayne: We hope to take the 72 beetle out on the ice this year, is this far from you?

-3F last night, currently +10F...we have about 30 inches of snow on the ground, got about 6 inches on Friday , expecting 6 to 12 Tuesday. sigh

Porsche-O-Phile 01-22-2011 10:14 AM

You guys gotta' find some more indoor stuff to do methinks.

Go outside in this crap? Are you effin' serious?

The purpose of winter (as I see it) is to prepare for next summer. If it's less than about 60 out I really have no interest in going outdoors, but that's just me. Fortunately having days below 60 mean more reason to do indoor stuff (including work stuff) so it helps my career I figure.

notfarnow 01-22-2011 10:43 AM

I'm not a fan of the cold, but I *love* heavy snow. The way I see it, if I can't be out on a boat or in the river for a swim, than I want at good 12" of snow every couple of weeks.

Anyone here drive their 911 in the snow? I am pretty much settled on a 911 for year-round driving fun, grime and rust be damned. Was thinking 964 carrera 4 but people are saying the awd is a pita. The 993 carrera 4's are a bit rich for my tastes... so maybe I'm better off with a good 3.2 carrera with studded tires

Oh Haha 01-22-2011 11:21 AM

Craig-that's a little far for me but looks like fun.

We just returned from the mall. I could feel the van "dancing" on the icy road. Very strange sensation it was.

Curt-got your PM. Maybe I'll see you at the lake tomorrow.
