Does it say anywhere "DO NOT PULL THIS PIN?" No. The tension is killing me. Pull the damm pin already!

This reminds of an incident the details of which I had the pleasure of investigating. A young man and his father-in-law were trying to figure out why the furnace would not light. It was dark. Father-in-law lit the match to see. Father-in-law sustained minor burns, the young man did survive. Barely.

Guys, a demo or practice unit would be painted blue on the fuse assy.

Yes the bottom was drilled but it sure looked like it was then plugged.

Two strikes against it being inert... proceed with caution.

I agree with Joe. There are too many unknowns and there is conflicting information.

a) the paint and markings are not correct for an "as issued" grenade, nor are they correct for an inert dummy grenade

b) it's a Mk2, but the original info your friend gave you was for markings regarding a Mk3. There is a BIG difference.

c) the seal between the fuze and body appears to be extruded slightly - possibly indicating the fuze has been out and perhaps a spent fuze exchanged for a live one.

d) the bottom has been drilled and re-plugged. Possibly re-filled with gunpowder? (see fuze comment above)

This has turned into a situation where my advice is to stay far, far away from this device.
Disregard all previous advice from me.

And as much as I distrust "the man", I advise you to urge your friend to call for EOD. The unknown element could be the reaper sneaking up on him (or you).

Timely...

Timely...

January 22, KFOX 14 El Paso – (Texas) Explosive brought to police regional command. The El Paso, Texas bomb squad was called out to a police command center January 22 after someone brought in an explosive device. Police said while clearing out a storage unit, a resident discovered a grenade with a pin still in it and took it to the Pebble Hills station. Police immediately secured the scene and the resident’s car that still had the explosive inside. Authorities said they were glad the person turned the grenade in. An El Paso police spokesperson said, “Our best practice is to simply leave the device, secure the area, and notify the police department right away.” Police closed down operations at the Pebble Hills station until the bomb squad arrived and disposed of the device. Police advise residents to never try and handle an explosive themselves. Source: Explosive Brought To Police Regional Command - News Story - KFOX El Paso

my friend was a military guy. he said before he left. some mechanics found one of those grenades that you shoot out. it was in some humvee. like idiots they played catch with it. tossing it between five guys. apparently they arm at 60 revolutions and explode at 80. spiraling it to your friend like a football is not good fun. it exploded and kill all five guys.

i would not mess with any grenade..real or not. call the cops. killing yourself is cool, blowing up your sister or daughter would suck really bad.

pop the top and flush it down the toilet. that's the only safe way to dispose of these things.

Holy awesomeness(sp?)!!! Just seeing this question made me pee a little

I personally would love to have a 55g drum of these for when the zombies come. But the wrath of the entire government, even county clerks from Catoosa County, GA - would be raining on my parade in no time I'm sure.

Do yourself a favor and do not obtain a grenade, unless your in Jersey at last call and she's the only one left
