You have to plug it in every now and then to recharge it

Try holding the home and power buttons down (together) for a long time while plugged in to a USB port. This forces a reboot. Let go when the apple shows up.

Put a new battery in and see if that helps.

Oh yea that's right, all apple products do not let you do that!

I think it would be quicker to drive the hour to the genius bar than to R & R the battery in my macbook pro...

Glad the reset worked for you, if it wigs out too many times I would go get it replaced....

Apple is "screwing" service customers.

If you buy a later model Apple product, they are changing the screws to a "rounded edge" screw. If you send in an Apple product for service, they will also install the new screws.

A pentalobe screwdriver costs about $5. I don't really get why Apple cares, but I also think if someone can't figure to buy a $5 screwdriver they are unlikely to successfully repair an iPhone or iPad. They are not trivial to open and fix, I've had my 3G apart.

If they are anything like fixing a Palm Treo 680, I understand. Getting the flat cables seated properly are tough.

Unfortunately that is the only way I know how to reset my Blackberry Curve when it crashes. Pressing a combination of buttons is certainly more elegant and user friendly, once you know the button combo.

That diagram is a bit wrong anyhow, Torx plus has 5 points, with rounded edges.

Torx plus securities have 5 points, rounded, hole in the middle. I tried and failed to get some locally to get the MAF sensors out of the Cayenne and restorted to ordering a set.

That sort of stuff isn't real secure when you can get the drivers for $5 or so. Somewhat silly.
