Oh yeah, a/c was a total issue. I rebuilt and converted it to 134a, but it was never strong enough. But the windows weren't tinted, and interior was black and that wasn't helping things.

'69 912 DD with the '69 911 occasionally mixed in.
The '69 SWT is a DD on the sunny warm days. I'd drive any of them any distance. |

When running?! How often and for how long is it out of commission for at a time? Anyone else experience this?

Years ago, I used my 1980 911SC Targa as a daily driver. Over the 5 years I owned it, it was my DD for two 1 year periods. I loved driving it when the weather was good and the top was off. It encouraged the long way home! It was very reliable and only let me down a couple of times. However, when it was too hot, the lack of AC was a killer. Similarly when it rained. And in traffic, if it was hot or raining, it was really quite annoying. Overall, I think it made me appreciate the car less, while it had DD duties.
At the moment I am thinking about using the Carrera (coupe) as a daily driver. However, I would only do it after re-installing/upgrading the AC but I guess that all comes down to the climate you live in. In terms of reliability, I wouldn't think twice. If you spend a lot of your daily commute in traffic, I would not recommend it. Get a cheap DD for the boring stuff and enjoy your Porsche on weekends on some twisty roads, or on the track. |

It happens. When I was using my 930 as a daily I had to pull it off the road for a transmission rebuild, it was disabled for 59 days as I waited for parts and fixed "while your in there" stuff while I had the drivetrain out. NA 911 parts are more common but during that time it became apparent that not many people are depending on these cars for transportation and lead time for getting parts can reflect that. I got lucky and bought the last pressure plate that KEP had in stock, if it weren't available I would have had to wait another 4-6 weeks for that part alone.
