Yes, but at one time it wasn't. Like back in the early surfer days. Who would be more likely to be driving barefoot?

I drive in socks after work in the summer. Work boots get hot and I need to cool off.

On long trips, I remove my shoes.
On really long trips I also remove my pants.

Think, a car with two stickshifts.

I never drive barefoot. I may drive a VW van, but that doesn't mean I'm some kind of hippie.

Occasionally, when driving back from the beach in flip-flops or on long drives.

Quick search online tells me that no state has a specific law requiring shoes when driving a car. Washington state allows driving without shoes, according to our local news investigators.

Like others have stated, driving with flip-flops is not a good idea. I kick them off when driving in Summer.

Same goes for flying airplanes. Barefoot beats flip-flops every time.

Oh Milt, you reminded me of a funny story! When my husband was a young and wild man (as compared to an older but still wild man ) he and a buddy drove around town, at night, in an old mustang bare azzed nekkid. Further, it was so much fun that they were able to get several young ladies to join them in the car, sans clothes.

He said that driving nekkid is a lot of fun but it makes the encounter with the nice police officer very awkward.

So what about these shoes? Would they be good driving shoes or is it better to have a hard sole?

Considering a pair, myself... Curious how they would hold up on the daily ride (motorcycle) in to work, gripping asphalt.

Byron, I'm sure it used to be legal in FL. Good friend of mine had his driving instructor tell him something like; You're not in Minnesota any more. This would have been 1988ish
It's not illegal in Minnesota. I've looked. There's nothing on the books up here. I think it's just an old wive's tale.
