I don't hate people.
I do admit to getting tired of some behaviors.

Back to the old lines from Desiderata

"Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit. "

I do try to keep living by my rules and keep doing the right thing but there are times I just want to bust people in the nose.

In order to avoid the undue influence of others one must know and trust one's self completely.

But there are times that I get pulled out of myself.

"95% of the people I meet are complete idiots IMO...

I don't understand how they can even pay their bills and rent/mortgage on time.

No budgeting... No sense of tomorrow or what they can do to make their lives better.
Just perpetual victims of credit card companies and fashion.
They keep doing the same thing over and over again and then wonder why they are broke and nothing good happens."

I'd have to go out and get a real job if it weren't for those people (I'm a pawnbroker). I don't think of them as idots though. After 25 years in the business, I see kids and grandkids doing the same thing. The concept of saving money just doesn't exist for them.

Something I did a long time ago... I "lowered" my expectations of other people. (Except my kids)

What this means is that when someone cuts me off in traffic or something equally stupid I don't get angry because they're an "idiot" and there doing what idiots do.

Would you give your girl friend or wife a credit card with a $5,000 limit? I know I wouldn't.

I hate the sense of entitlement that alot of people carry. As if theya re "owed' certain things.

Lack of personal responsibility is another. Quick case in point. My buddy bought a fixer-upper and put alot of work to makie it a very nice 3 Bedroom, 2 bath home. Put it up for rent. Gets a fmaily that through assistance gets half of the 800/.month rent paid for them. They have been consistently late on their half. They didnt pay Jan or Feb. after many broken promises, sob stories, etc., he moves to evict. wins the judgement. renters say, they will pay all money when the man gets his paycheck. The day he gets paid, my buddy gets a call from the GF renter--we don't have the money. Her asks, didn't BF get paid today? Her reply, yeah, but he had other bills to pay?WTF? What could be more important than the rent on where you are living? dumbasses

I used to work with a guy that was a moron when it came to money. He never did any preventative maintenance on his cars. He would just pay some mechanic to do the minimum to get the car to run. Obviously none of his cars lasted very long. His ONLY criteria for buying his next car was what the monthly payment was. He always bought a new car because "it was under warranty and cheaper to own."

He was so far upside down on his cars it was laughable.

He was always asking for paycheck advances because some utility was about to be turned off. Somehow he always had money to buy more junk for his Beatles collection. He had an entire room of his house packed with Beatles collectibles. He would never dream of selling some of it to keep the electricity on.

My ex brother in law goes out to work and brings the paycheck home.
His wife does all of the budgeting and he gets a small allowance so he has some "scratch" in his wallet.
He rarely mowed the law and his home improvement skills were something to behold.
As an example... The toilet in their house was unfinished for almost 20 years. Just wood framing with card board and tape to provide some privacy.
I could go on and on but he was that sort of guy. He used to annoy me but I felt I had to make an effort because he was "family".

He always had a bomb for a car but somehow it was always my responsibility to help him when it broke down. Servicing and minor repairs. All for free.
I lost count of how many times he called the house asking for help because he was stranded somewhere.
I even had to use my own tools because he didn't have the money to buy his own but he did have money for beer and cigarettes.

Actually looking back I was the idiot for doing it!

Back home in Texas (when we lived in the country) neighbors used to drive by and see us working, go home, change, and come join. We did the same for them!

In Houston the neighbors complained we did not hire out the yard work. Made the neighborhood appear poor. It was. Poor, that is.

In Indiana most of our neighbors stop and help in emergencies, we do the same for them. We have also helped in non-emergency situations but we have one of the smallest farms in this area. And we have not had the equipment necessary to complete the chore at hand. One neighbor and I are doing some business ventures together on just a handshake. We are both at risk but both of us are making a small profit we did not achieve last year.

People in big cities and on the coasts can tend to be more self centered and what is in it for me. NOT everyone, but enough to sour me on wanting to live there.

I also do not like everyone in my business. If I am not hurting anyone or the environment, what does it really matter that my house is a different design than the neighborhood or my car is not as new as everyone else's?

I hear you David, I too grew up in the country them moved to the city only to move back to the sticks and I noticed;
The closer you live to your neighbor the more distant they are from you.

A cabinet maker I used to know once told me, "People are no damn good."

I was younger and more tolerant, yet I had a huge temper. Now I'm old, the cabinet maker is gone, and I don't have much of a temper problem.

And I know now more of what he knew then. Maybe that's what it takes.

You see, I don't give a rat's ass about anything. You, them, or the dog.

A friend told me many years ago, "what other people think of you is none of your business".
I didn't understand it at the time but I get it now.
