Ducati Diavel. What do you think?

It's 162 HP. More upright than a sportbike. Sort of a sport cruiser. They don't have typical Ducati looks, but I think I like it.

What do you think?

I don't mean to be negative but...

I like it but I'm not sure it "looks" like a Ducati.

I know they need to introduce new models to keep things fresh but the old school racer bike look is hard to improve on IMO.

I feel the same way about it as I did when Porsche introduced the Cayenne.

In this day and age, it's very difficult for a specialty manufacturer to maintain what us enthusiasts regard as the "purity" of their lines. Continuing to sell just sport bikes, or just sport cars, is not a very financially sound objective. So, like the Cayenne, if the Diaval helps Ducati continue to build sport bikes, so be it. Porsche's line up of sports cars did improve, and broaden with the money made from the Cayenne.

For a power cruiser/musclebike/streetfighter, it does nothing for me.

For a Ducati, it does nothing for me.

I recognize they're trying to expand their market segment coverage but that thing looks like the demented lovechild of a Suzuki Boulevard and a Duc Monster. Frankly the recent styling changes to the Monster have put me off as well. The "droopy headlight" thing didn't work for the Boxster/996, and it doesn't work for the Monster either.

Try riding a bike like that for a few hrs at 70 mph. You'll quckly tire of that seating position. The wind on your chest makes it impossible to sit up straight for long periods. For me, a backache in 1/2 hr......I'd rather lean forward a bit, bend at the waist and keep my back straight......Make a good tavern bike to putt around town.

Nothing against Ducati, just don't like that riding position.

If someone dropped one in my driveway I would suffer through owning it.

A bit heavy on the plastic.

I was seriously drooling over a new SV650 parked at Home Depot yesterday.

I went to the Cycle World Motorcycle show last month where Ducati had a few of these in different color combos. I had a chance to sit on the bike as well.

They look better in real life than they do in photos. Seating position is more comfortable than most Ducatis. Looks like it is intended to fall into the same class as a VMax or VRod, but leans more heavily toward the sport bike side of the equation than cruiser.

They come in all black, too, which IMHO is the best color combo for it. Nice details on the bike as well. Personally, I liked the bike.

The Diavel is growing on me, but I also like the VRod (VMax not so much). I don't think I would ever own one (but give me another 10 years or so until the knees/hips can't handle rearsets, then ask again), but the performance stats are impressive, and so far the first ride reports are ebullient in their praise.

It would be on the short list if I were shopping for a cruiser-style bike. I also like the Starbucks special edition.

I sat on a Carbon Fiber version at the Int'l Cycle show here in Greenville. It's comfortable with a slightly forward leaning riding position. I agree with those above that are put off with Ducati's styling on their non-race bikes in recent years. This one has a huge fat rear tire and, like the Streetfighter...are going after the "attitude" types. It's a shame that Ducati seems hell bent on being an Italian Harley Davidson, at least here in the states.

Now, if I could find a nice Sport 1000 or Paul Smart, I'd be all over it.

The money seemed to cause Porsche to think it could take down and own VW.

Which, of course and with delicious irony, ended up with the loss of Porsche's coveted independence.

Anyways, the bike in this thread is ugly as sin. It looks like a pig.

I'd have to ride it before I could tell you if I liked it or not. I'd rather it had a V-4, than a twin, but that's the way it goes.

I suggest that you go find one that you can ride and report back to us.

It looks like it could be very top heavy but I don't know if thats actually a gas tank or an electronics compartment. AND it's ugly.

I LIKE it! I would love to swing a leg over that and tear the throttle open!

It also looks like it has a lower seat height. A big plus for me. Alot of sport or sporty bikes are so tall I have to slide sideways on the seat to get a foot down at a light.

I've see it in person. Its pretty cool. Tough looking. The tail section is wide, and the vertical tail lights have a 50s hot rod look.
