Seems like a lot of their missions, (at least the ones we know about), occur far away from any water.

The one former SEAL that I know fits your description to a T; one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

I think there are no former SEALs, just as there are no former Marines.

Thats what makes 'em so sneaky... I mean, sure you are far inland... you expect the Marines, probably a Recon group... but no.. they send in actual *navy* personnel, and the SEAL team at that! And yet, hundreds of miles away from enough water to float a canoe...

Seems like some huge mission creep.

What is Delta Force for?

Because Delta Force exists for these specific sorts of missions.

As far as the demeanor of elite types, some of them are very quiet, some of them are the exact opposite. There are many VERY colorful "larger than life" braggadocios elite troops. And many that are very quiet. Just like society.

I worked with the SEAL that I know and I've met and socialized with him and a number of his SEAL brothers on numerous occasions, several involving drinking a lot of alcohol. They were all gentlemen (i.e. not braggadocios). Same applies to the spec. ops breed of Marines I'm acquainted with.

I've lived for many years near where both SEALS and Marines train. Also near where Top Gun pilots train (now THERE are a braggadocio bunch of dudes. Even the mother of one that I also happen to know, rolls her eyes and says, Oh yes!).

But those are just my takes and I admit that I haven't actually read about them like you have.

others were involved also

dunno why, but ... SEAL Team 6, Delta and some CIA elements are specially trained & equipped - even compared to others in SF

the news reports may be a diversion, and/or maybe the SEALs happened to be nearby - who knows?

So do the SEALS... Either DF was busy elsewhere, or SEALS had some other things going for them that made em better suited for the task...

What's the problem really?
- the job is done, the target has been eliminated
- no casualties on US side

- what more do you want? a complimentary BJ?

the location of the compound is on the map above & is within 1/3 mile of the marked spot (which is a Paki Military Academy)

- for scale, that loop road below the marker has a diameter of ~120 meters

news reports say that that the compound or palace or mansion he was in was 8x larger than other houses in the neighborhood
