Not that it matters... but what car was he driving?

He was test driving a Lexus LF-A
Didn't know Lexus had such a car....I do now. Nascar needs a little controversy. Looks like a little free publicity for both with the coke 600 coming up. Just saying.

I think they live up near Davidson. A lot of the backroads are 45mph because of bicylists.

More proof he's stupid.

He was incredibly stupid.

I give my friends in the sheriff's department a call to find out where they are setting up when I want to go on a "spirited" run...

I do think its pretty decent publicity for the Lexus LFA, although considering most cars these days can do 120MPH, he probably should of been pulled for 150MPH or something...

That said, Kyle Busch is the most loved/hated driver in NASCAR. A lot of people who "hate" him are gong to raise a stink over this.

Definitely a different driving scenario... intersections, blind curves because of trees on both sides of the road... Mapquest map of the area in this piece:

Kyle Busch flagged for driving 128 mph

Doing speeds like that on a road of that description is a recipe for disaster because someone can pull out of their driveway or a side road into your path... if you are 100+ yards away when they look both ways, they may not see you or notice your closing speed from that distance unless they are a very astute driver.

Once they pull out, the laws of physics will determine what happens, and it's usually not pretty.

128 in a LFA on a back road is definitely a lot safer than 70 on a Michigan highway in my sister's Jeep Liberty (not that I have driven an LFA but I imagine it makes my 951 look like a Liberty in terms of handling)

+1

I personally think the guy is a douche bag, but folks calling for him to be banned from racing because of breaking a law while not on a race track is ridiculous. I would hope he would be treated just like I would be treated in a court of law. If that means jail time or huge fines .... so be it.

Exactly.

Which is why I don't get all the big drama. People have a number to judge, just one number (128) and all of the hand wringing ensues. Apparently because he's some sort of a douche some people want to pile on the guy with a few extra kicks. ...he got the ticket, and more grief. Yet that's not enough for some. :-/

pwd72s;

That is too weird, I have both of the cars in that picture. Don't know if the years and engines are the same though. 2011 candy red and 2008 grabber orange.

It all comes down to personal responsibility for ones actions.

I don't know or care what the law is where he was stopped. Whatever it is just apply it to him just like any other idiot driving 2.5+ times the speed limit. In most places triple digits gets the driver a nice set of bracelets and a trip to the graybar motel. If normal is to suspend the license well so be it. If it is a big fine, go for it. Just treat him like any other regular citizen.

I was thinking about that, but 45 can really be any type of area. There's a spot near my house that is flat, straight, 2 lanes each way, no development and nothing near the road - it would be perfectly safe to do high speeds there with nobody else around. It should be a 60 zone, not 45.

But the same road 3 miles later turns into suburbia and would be anything but safe to do over 50. The speed zone in both parts is 45.

I live and grew up in the area - there are sections of Perth Rd that you can easily and safely drive that speed. Not sure exactly where he got popped.

The local media is all up in arms over this and I find it mildly funny and annoying at the same time.

What is more dangerous

Professional Race Car Driver in a High performance sports car doing 128 mph in a 45 or

a fully loaded semi truck being driven in traffic by a tired driver doing his best to get somewhere as fast as he can to earn his money surrounded by a bunch of idiots that are more concerned about
1.texting
2.talking on their cell phones
3.shaving
4.reading a book,magazine,newspaper
5.playing with their damn iPads
6.watching porn on their 21 inch dash mounted TV's

Then of course you have your 16 y/o kids given the keys to 6000+ pound full size SUV's that believe that they are those professional race car drivers.

According to NHSTA in 2009 there where 33,808 people died in traffic accidents - How many where caused by race car drivers doing well in excess of the posted limit

Personally I can not excuse what he did but it was not the end of the world and he should loose his ticket to drive for a while and go on about his life.

Oh and that list above have been observed this month one or more times on local roads by myself and all have been speeding.

The financial penalty for this escapade is chump change for someone like KB. I think that's why some want to "pile it on." I know if it were me, they'd have taken me to jail and it would cost me more than I can afford in a very serious way. Frankly, I don't speed anymore because of just that.

KB will laugh this off while pretending to apologize for strictly PR purposes. In fact, given his older brother's arrest for a DUI (but not convicted) in Phoenix years back, Kyle is prolly needling Kurt saying, "How 'bout that one, buddy? Top that."

The elder Busch was sidelined for the last 2 races of the season by Roush. He was moving to Penske anyway and Roger put him on a strict PR regimen.

What do you think ol' religious Joe Gibbs has in mind?

Not Exactly.

There are basic rxn times that cannot be improved by training. At a certain speed and distance he could easily hit a darting child, dog, deer, or car pulling out of a (formerly) hidden driveway before the nerve impulses can travel to the muscles.

NC. A former sheriff (now a convicted felon) in the next county over used to brag to the media about doing over 150 mph in his race prepped sheriff's car. I'm not condoning Busch, but I've seen LEO's place a LOT more folks in danger with "trivial pursuits" on congested streets, all in the name of "protecting and serving". They ALWAYS get a free pass even if they kill innocent folks in the line of duty .
