since i still have my childhood friend and eagle scout amigo(i was life werking on eagle until gasoline and perfume showed up in my life and then it was downhill from there), that works at honeywell, formerly known as airesearch, garrett corp, garrett turbines, garrett pneumatics, who does fab work for us.

i kinda know why a certain aircraft mfg, based in seattle is having such a tough time delivering their new aircraft. honeywell "allegedly" has over 1-BILL-YON dollars $$$$$ in parts that are classified as "AOG" pertaining to this.

now the "alleged reason" is because all the workers were layed off(parking lots a ghost town) and all the work farmed to messiko and czech-o-slav-aki-a.

seems a whole slew of parts dont pass Q.C. and thats when they get.............

a "REWORK" sticker, henceforth causing the "AOG" sticker and late deliveries to vendors that really really need them in seattle.

this was caused by the infinite "WIZ-DUMB" of the mgmt. who have since retired or taken "golden parachutes" leaving the place in a shambles, causing vendors to have all sorts of "AOG'S"

if yer in the aircraft biz...............you aint EVAR gonna get it today! no matter who you are how much money ya got how high you jump and swear.

thats the way it works..............because they can.

and you wanna fly in an air-buss???????????? you got to be kidding me!

Local hotels. Typically the nicest ones in town, too. We hire a tour bus to run the crews back and forth between the hotel and the airport. It picks us up at the hotel in the morning, and when it drops us off, the night crew boards to return to the hotel. In the evening it picks them up at the hotel, and we get on when they get off. We typically overlap for half an hour or so so tie each other in.

Sometimes we travel on a "tech assist" kind of a deal, when the airline or MRO supplies mechanics for the repair. We have tools and equipment they do not, access to engineers and other staff at home that they do not, and so forth. We work in more of an advisory / liason role on those trips. We still stay in hotels, but we will rent a car or two or three, depending on how many we are, and drive ourselves back and forth. We typically only cover days on site, but are on call all night.

There is a tug in front of it. I wonder if it was being towed.

AIRSHOW-Dusk retreat and repair job for damaged A380 | Reuters

The stricken test plane limped out of Le Bourget with its damaged wingtip as dusk fell on Monday, taking off from a commercial runway unseen from industry chalets and well after most of the 140,000 visitors had left for the day, an airport source said.

Guy on right.... Yeah, maybe we could tell everyone it's the 'clipped wing' A380 version, unveiled here of course!

Orange: What happened to the plane?
Yellow: what do you mean?
Orange: I mean the end if the wing is missing.
Yellow: what do you mean it's missing? It looks fine to me...

Holy crap. We have never, in all the years I've been doing this, been allowed to ferry an aircraft with damage that is anywhere near that expensive. Ever. We have fixed an awful lot of wing tips and leading edges over the years; pilots really like to hit light poles, buildings, and other airplanes.

Maybe there are "advantages" to being a state run manufacturer, damaging your aircraft at an air show hosted by that state, then going to the self-same state for a ferry permit. Incredible. We would never get away with this, especially anywhere in Europe.

More power to them, I guess. It will sure as hell be a lot easier to fix it in Toulouse, where they have all of the facilities, tools, equipment, and personnel.

Jeff, I have ferried quite a few jets to mx hubs at the airlines. Clipped wings, light pole dents in the leading edges and one of my fondest memories was ferrying from Corpus Christi to Hot Springs in a jet that had a huge hole in the front right cabin where a truck slammed into it. Had to fly unpressurized at 10,000 ft. For 2 1/2 hours with the LOUD air noise coming in the plane and very hot with no air cooling! We had to fly with the ram air valve open also. It sux. Lol.

...and no unauthorized pesky cameras memorializing the incident.

odd job and embraer had it right. my old company had an "incident" in cleveland with one of our E170's. it was stuck there for almost a year while it was repaired before being flown out. they sectioned a whole new nose on the aircraft, from the leading edge of the wing, forward.

We have actually patched a few of those holes for ferry flights. Folks would be amazed at what we have used - "locally available materials", including plywood, corrugated siding, etc... Not that they can be pressurized, but it does keep the noise down for you poor guys. And it protects internal structure and systems from wind blast.
