A Well Prepared E36 M3 (LS6 Power)

The sum of all these parts should create a beast. Suspension is done. Brakes are done. I might swap them out for something better at some point though. Now I continue to gather parts for the swap. I still need a lot. But the goal is < 3100# & around 450-500 horsepower. Yes, the one thing E36 M3's lack is power, but I'll fix that. Will add posts as progress continues.

Rust free, California native 1995 M3, Daytona Violet.

Suspension before install. Many of these parts came from Pelican.

I thought about the Euro S52 & even an S54. But you can't beat the bang for the buck with an LSx. Nice suspension BTW.

Mbrou, I like those wheels, they might work on my Z3 Coupe, where do you park it?

Kosei K1's. They're actually very inexpensive. Tirerack carries them.

Sweet!!
You should catch "2 Guy's Garage" . Kevin built the exact car you are doing.

I really dig those year M cars. I've got a hankerin' for the 1 series M Coupe, though.;)

Good luck man, looks like its going to be a tight squeeze!

This project is a neat one. I wish here in California we could get back to our hot-rod roots. This isn't legal for us unless you want a track only toy.

How much does the BMW 6 weight vs. the LS Cheby?

BeyGon 07-04-2011 10:13 AM

Jim I think you can do it here, you just have to make it smog compliant like the car the engine came from. I did it with the Vanagon/Subaru and have seen Jags, 928s and others with new small block chevys, just have to put all that smog stuff on it.

I believe the Chevy weighs a few pounds less.

Are those halfshafts too skinny? That's going to be beastly.

Laneco 07-04-2011 02:21 PM

Had an SBC in a Jaguar. Cured everything that was wrong with that car except the wretched windshield wipers. I love transplants!

This one could easily be my favorite! Please keep posting pictures because I am definately subscribed to this thread!

Oops, that's right!! I think the engine was probably a tighter fit in the E30.

Either way, keep us up to date with pics of the progree.

Pulled the engine, trans, ABS pump, booster & master cylinder then cleaned everything up a bit. There are a few more small items that need to go but next will be a respray of the engine compartment. I'm actually way ahead of schedule. I had planned on being at this point by October, car done by spring. Maybe this will all come together sooner.
