Popular Mechanics just posted a write-up on a 1964 Porsche 356 Turbo. That's right, a 356 Turbo. It would seem that Chris Toy wasn't satisfied with the performance from the Porsche's original 1.6 liter motor and thought he could do much better with a 3.3 liter turbo from a '79 Porsche 930 stuffed into the rear-end (stuffed to the point of taking up part of the back-seat too).

What humming bird?

RWebb 01-29-2014 11:45 AM

the engines in hummingbirds, like all vertebrates, is muscles which are powered by organelles called mitochondria

a guy has done studies of muscle tissue samples in H birds and concluded that their muscle tissue is so packed with mitochondria that adding any more would compromise the ability of the muscles to contract

if true, they are at the very dead-end of evolution in power to weight ratios

1976 Porsche 911 Carrera - Nasty 911
Porsche Purists... Brace Yourselves!

The first thing you'll notice about Bisi's 930 is the familiar Bisimoto Electric Blue paint and Grand Prix White Eins Gramm wheel scheme. This combination is a trademark look for Bisi, and it looks oh-so-good on the 911. The body of the car has been widened, using only metal of course. The front of the already wide 930 has been stretched out one additional inch and the rear fenders have been extended by two inches. This custom wide body combined with a customized GT3 front bumper and massive rear wing give the car a unique look, which is pure race. These parts are rare in any shape, let alone altered. Again, this is where the Porsche purists will **** themselves. But the best part is what lies underneath that huge rear winga completely built 3.4-liter water-cooled and turbocharged 996 motor, which is good for 771 horsepower at 7300 RPM.

Here is a photo of my newly completed 2.8L with Varioram. It is built on an early aluminum case with big baffled oil tank, GT3RS oil pump and coil-on plug/Motec ignition/fuel injection - yet to be dyno'd. It will be used for auto-x and track work.

Thanks.. Chris Powell in Bellevue built the motor. He has been very patient with me and vica versa. This was a 2 year project extended by budgetary constraints and slo..ow headwork by Pauter. I'm hoping the wait was worth it - it does sound pretty awesome with those big cams and headers/Flowmaster. The advantage of Varioram is primarily for auto-x because you are in 2nd gear most of the time - for trackwork, it's not necessary as long as you are willing to shift more. I figure you can add Varioram for about $2-3K provided you have the necessary EFI sensors already. I'll post updates when I can.
