That'd be fun...

I doubt it would amount to a whole lot if it made it up this far (lotta rain, but that's about it). My relatives who live on Cape Cod would have something to be concerned with. Me not so much.

Be careful what you say Grasshopper. I lived through Bob a few years ago while living in Epping and it wasn't pretty. Of course the 'perfect storm' a few weeks later was worse.

Hopefully it has enough rain to put out the Peat Moss fires in Eastern NC and VA.

it will miss ya'll because I moved from there in 06. You haven't had a hit since I left. Don't forget to go to Publix and get peanut butter and toilet paper.

So far, the latest weather forecasts are calling for 25-30 mph winds, peak gusts to about 45 mph, and around an inch of rain over 24 hours.

-I'm smelling a big ol' fashioned hurricane party! I'll post pics later.

Well, Irene came and went.

-Nothing happened. And nothing WILL ever happen, because I bought a generator in 2005. As soon as I get sick of dragging it out of the shed each month and running it for 20 minutes...we will get SLAMMED!

I view that generator as my "anti-hurricane talisman". I'm not religious, but I think that something just plots against me some times, and this is an example.

We had a few rain squalls today, probably half an inch of rain, and 15 mph winds, with gusts to maybe 20 mph. My 928's instrument lights have been giving me fits, so I pulled the instrument pod in the garage with the garage door open, and while I was cutting and crimping wires, I was able to listen to the wind and it was nothing. Really nothing! I went to my neighbors house for an hour, since he was having a party...but when I returned home I went back to work on my car. I found one wire connection that had come loose, and a fried fuse, which I replaced, and I'm back in business. Red LED bulbs to light the display, along with Speedhut EL backlit red gauge faces- It looks way cool compared to the boring stock!

Anyway, it passed us. But you folks on the outer banks of North Carolina need to batten down the hatches! Holy ben-wa balls Dickman! You're in for a big BLOW! They also say it will hit NY/NJ and long island; By then it will be weak and probably be about the same as a good "nor-easter", or fall wave cyclone.

-I'd advise any of you who live in these areas and who have portable generators to get your generator out TONIGHT and run the thing! I run mine during the first grass cut of each month, since it is in the shed just behind the mower. As such, it will start and run fine. I put only pure gasoline in all my mowers and tools, after destroying a chain saw on E10 ethanol gas last spring! I have 25 gallons of pure gasoline for the generator. I suggest all of you in the cone of this thing get your ass out in that garage tonight and check the thing while you can! Being with out power for a few days sucks!

Looks like we are gonna get slammed pretty bad here. All the coastal town have gotten an evac order. People are already cleaning out the supermarkets.
Just got back from the firehouse, rechecking all our equipment . I know we are gonna be running like mad.

Be cool. stay safe. Been through them when I lived in FL. You will live to see the light of day again if you don't do anything stupid....like staying. When they say get out...get out.

Best of luck.

Hoping the best for you all in the North East. The projected route keeps changing, maybe it will shift towards the east and go right by you. Be safe!
As Kids my buds and I used to skim board in the streets in Fla. when the big storms came. Jump on the board and the wind would blow you way down the street. It was a bioch making it back up the street. Years later it was all about surfing the waves that came with the storms. It was all so easy as kids, no worries.
Hang in there.

Considering how long it's been since the NE had a hurricane, I'm sure there will be no shortage of that. Stay safe.

+1

One person needing rescue because they didn't evacuate, puts more lives (rescuers) at risk.

We are set here. All aircraft ready for duty, just waiting for the storm to hit.

Should be interesting...

Projected track is going to be west of where I am so that will (theoretically) subject us to the maximum winds (NE in a northern hemisphere cyclone).

I suspect it'll be much ado about nothing. Lot of rain, some wind, a few down tree branches (most of the dead ones on my property I've cut down already). Might lose power, might not. The local nuke plant is pretty close so I'm not terribly worried (fairly short runs to the main substation and from there to the plant, plus I've got a generator anyway).

I've got plenty of fuel, beer, batteries, food, water, ammo and a couple of spare chains for the chainsaw. The cars are all put away and secure indoors so I don't think it's going to be a problem at all. I'm on a hill so I don't anticipate flooding either. The pool might overflow a little.

I'm not looking forward to this AT ALL. I heard this morning they are forecasting 6 - 12 INCHES of RAIN?!?

Fortunately, we are on relative high-ground, so I don't anticipate high-water flooding, but it could get bad around here.

Now, the two 200 yo oaks that dominate my yard - - - another matter entirely. We'll just need to sit and ride it out - possibly in the basement given these trees.
