Anyone own/owned Infiniti G35 Coupe?
Looking at a 2005 Base with automatic. Reviews all seem to be good. Had my 2006 BMW 330i for a couple of years and just looking to move away from BMW. I love the car, but had BMW's for the last 5 years and just want to mix it up a bit. Going to test drive the G35 today.

My wife's car is a 2008 G35x. The x is just the full time 4 wheel drive.
We bought it new. It is a nice car. It is very quiet at highway speeds. The gas mileage sucks, she drives it slow and easy on her commute to work. She gets about 17 mpg in all city driving. My only real complaint is the gas pedal feel. It is drive by wire and as you start to give it gas nothing happens, then more gas and nothing happens, a little more gas and BAM you are your way. It is not linear at all. She has only driven it 14,000 miles so it is not exactly a high mileage car. We have had zero problems. The dealer is just two miles from our house. Since it is under warrenty the had done the service work which is mostly oil changes. $45 and the change the oil & wash the car for her in 45 minutes max.

I've driven my buddy's sedan. My impression was a few year old G35 didn't feel as solid as a few year old 3 series. The brakes don't have as good a feel as the BMW and seem to wear out faster.

One of the most enjoyable and trouble-free new cars we've ever owned. I ordered ours in 2003, a 6MT coupe. Had a wonderful drivetrain. At 7000 miles we added a Procharger supercharger, and drove it for 70,000 miles with no problems except one belt & pulley set change. As far as brakes, ours came stock with Brembos, so NO problem there. Looked brand new when we sold it to a neighbor who also owns a 370Z drop-top. Looked at 3-series BMW when we bought it, but the Infiniti got the nod. As i was said above, it was a "Z car with a back seat". ALso a great community of owners, good forums as well.
EDIT: as far as traction control, we always drove with the VDC switched "off"

One of my local counsel has one. I've ridden in it a lot and have driven it. I like it a lot. It's about 3 years old and seems solid and to be holding up well to family and business use or abuse. It seems comfortable, quick and capable. If it was a little larger I would think of one myself.
The gas and brakes seem almost on/off to me, but my local counsel drives it without jerking, so it can be driven smoothly. I think it's a matter of feel.

They changed the engine and body style in 07. The 05 doesn't have the throttle problem. Actually it isn't a probem if you know about it. My wife has 127,000 on her 07. Great car. 0 problems. Averages 25 on the highway at 70. Brakes lasted till 120,000. Changed belts and plugs at 120 too. Her car is an automatic.
As tight now as when it was new. It did eat tires till we went with Kuhomo's. Last edited by Les Paul; 09-26-2011 at 08:10 AM.. Reason: Spelling |

Well just got back from test driving it. Was still nice and tight, no rattles or squeaks. Did not seem to be significantly faster than the 330i, but did squeal the tires taking off.
Rear seats are really only good for a kid, but that is not an issue. Overall car in great shape, BUT, BUT, when I was looking in the back there was mouse crap on the seats and on the floor! Even the dealer freaked out and is going to pull the interior body panels to find the mouse. I think that is going to be a deal breaker for me, even if the dealer gives a "mouse" discount. You never know what wires the mouse has been chewing on. Hell, how did it even get in the car?

It's possible they were carrying something in the car like a box from storage, that had mouse doo-doo in it.
Possible. angela

This car has been at the dealership for 3 months. I suspect the mouse got in through the cabin filter. Has to be recent. Surely someone would have noticed it before?

If you liked the car, just find another one that hasn't had mice

I had a '95 RX7 TT that I took in to get smogged at a place I'd never been before. I'd been up very late figuring out how to get my computer running; a faulty mouse turned out to be the problem.
After awhile I wandered out to the car and the tech. had the hood up, said, Just about finished. So you have a mouse problem, eh? Dumbfounded, I asked, How on earth do you know that?! He pointed to the wire loom and said, See where it's been chewing on the insulation? Damned mice! So I bought a new one for my computer and set mousetraps in my garage.

If you can go for a 07 or newer. Better everything. I would think you could get one for 12-15.
