Morning Todd,

Richard[/QUOTE]

Also try to encourage your son to try to be there for his Grand Father. He will probably gain from the time with him as well.

Did I say that?
I am really not in a position to advise you about what is best for your family, sorry. You are doing great, carry on.

Cheers Richard

Very well written Todd. You look a lot like your Dad.

Nostatic,

I hope that at least one of my sons can write that about me some day.

Jim Bremner.

Todd, you seem like a great guy, a great dad and a great son from all of your posts. Though I have never met your dad, I am sure that he is very proud of you. The greatest honor you can ever give your father is to be the man that you are...

I hope so too, but there aren't many that can live up to Todd's dad's story. A lot of that has to do with the time frame.

The Great Generation it was. Todd's dad saw the Great Depression as a child. He saw TV come to the home, travel to space, the information age develop and countless other milestones in almost every field from medicine to machinery. The proverbial Automobiles to Zoology.

Just think of his first golf clubs compared to what you buy nowadays.

A life well lived.

My friend's mother is dying... We take our Golden Retriever over weekly to give her some comfort and happiness. It's not much, but it's all we can do. She looks forward to Daisy's visits and the dog seems to know her job and she does it well!

A brief update. The slide downhill is inevitable and moves in fits and starts. Since posting this my dad has been in and out of the hospital first due to infections (that is ongoing). He's had some episodes of being "out there" and one night at home he got up and fell, banging his head. After a trip to the ER, he came back home and the next night got up in the middle of the night and fell and broke his hip. So back to the hospital for surgery (and another infection). Yesterday he was transferred to a nursing home for rehab which will probably be there for anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months. This has put any cancer treatment on hold which is probably a good thing as I don't think radiation therapy is going to improve quality of life.

If anything all of this reinforces the concept that you only have today and you should do the things you want to do now. Also nothing ever stays the same and to expect otherwise will just make you miserable. Hug your kids, hug your parents, do it today.

My sincere condolences and best wishes for your dad's comfort. As we all get older, it becomes apparent this sort of scenario becomes something we encounter more and more often. Best to you.

I hope all goes well for your father, Todd. My dad lived life to the fullest til he hit 75. Then he had his first stroke. The slowing down was hard on him. He didn't have the strength to drive his Jeep Commando anymore, ended up sitting around far too much and passed away at 78. He was a WWII vet, Africa and Italy. I fought with him too much as a teen because I knew far more than he ever did and he just didn't understand the world. Damn. We made peace far too late. I miss him.

Sorry to hear that he is not getting any better.

Sure reminds me of when the same thing happened to my Father.

With your fathers passing I felt others would enjoy reading your thoughts that you were able to pen last fall.

For me it was some time ago when I was 19 . Not a day passes when I don't think about him . Treasure the time you've had .

Words seem to have an empty ring , but know that others here care for you and your family .

I tend to bounce in and out of PPOT for extended periods of time and missed this earlier thread, and another stirring tribute by Todd for his dad. My longtime ex-g/f was a hospice nurse. She had a job that I could not do, but was awesome in helping other's on their journey to the other side. She told me many times of the peace they find near the very end, it's nothing to fear imo....
