You aren't looking to adopt are you? I don't think my parents would take it too hard if you adopted me. I like old German cars
I bet with the stupid way they have the smog rules written, there will be a lot of nice, 1976ish cars getting sold out of California.

There is a rubber spacer above each rear spring too and they come in different thicknesses. I think there are only three and they have either a single dot on the side for the thinnest up to 3 dots for the thickest.
Nice car

No emissions worries.

Those bell-shaped things are the solenoids for the emission control system- these cars used to have thermal reactors. Do you see the circular plate on the intake manifold? That used to have a copper tube in it for air injection.
This car looks very nice, I would resist the temptation to make ANY modifications. Well, maybe get rid of that Stant radiator cap. I had a heck of a time fitting 15's under the wheel wells of my '75 2002 (VIN 2366288, never forget that)- it's one of those things that is very trial and error. A set of E30 325iX basket weaves would be cool, although panasports are period. The rubber shift gaiter (seen in your photo as having come off and fallen below the console) was superceded by a vinyl one-- the rubber itself puts pressure on the shift lever and can pop it out of gear. In any case it's not correct for a '76. That is a Weber carb, probably a 32/36 DGAS (the A is for AQUA, as in, water-powered choke), with mechanical secondaries. Not a bad carb and with the original cam will idle OK. Dual side-drafts with a TI air cleaner would be a very cool sleeper mod. Great car and lucky find in good condition, I would keep it as such. My first car was a 2002 and I'll never forget it-- fun and easy to wrench on.

My garage looks similar now. I've had a 1973 BMW 2002tii for a while, and just added my first Porsche today: a 1980 911SC that I bought in Tucson, AZ and drove it home today, 940 miles without any issues. I will have to take better pictures tomorrow.
