What a strange, incestuous thread. The diversity of people on this BB is truely refreshing.

The only person I have to take issue with here is Nostatic: being a tenured professor means never having to kiss any ass, ever again. You can even insult a Dean, as long as you do not physically assault the person, tempting as it may be. And you have to keep your hands off the coeds. The real problem with academics is that they generally have no appreciation for Porsches, and consider the subject utterly crass. They think it is socially irresponsible to use a radar detector, and have never seen the movie Le Mans.

Just some idle thoughts as I count the days until I can take a Greyhound bus to Chicago and pick up my Carrera, after its overhaul.

Ah, but the major ass-smooch takes place amongst the *junior* faculty, and in administration. My 5 years as a tenure-track faculty at a "highly selective" liberal arts school gave me quite an edjukashun. Deans are a totally different animal...especially at my current gig as an admin at a major private university. They wield a ton of power, but as you say are still at the mercy of tenured faculty. BUT, the golden rule still applies, and I haven't seen a tenured faculty that wouldn't kiss some major butt to get a grant.

I won't comment about the coeds...especially those long nights in lab
Contrary to popular lore some very good looking women go into science...

OMG jack stop showing pictures of your car!!!! its too nice!! I want one like is so badly!
I'm just kidding about the stop showing pictures statement, please show more, I love it!! Where did you get those seats? They are nice! You got taste.

Everyones got different taste, so some people may see your car as the nicest one they have seen. I like your car alot, but I guess I like black cars, they look "slick", and if its a porsche, its even better.

Please let me in on those seats, they are NICE.

EDIT: Never mind about the seats, I know what you did.

WHOA!!!!! I make one little post, probably my second post ever, go out of town for work, get back, and look what's happened!

"Did I do that?"

I'm glad my post got so many of you involved and you all got to excercise your keyboard and right to free speach, but I was just poking a little fun while trying to feel things out for a potential project.

I've never even had an exchange of words with Jack, not yet, but as you all agree he has a nice car. Jack putted it best, it's a good car to to admire from both sides of the fence. I certainly was not kissing butt, and I wasn't aware of being in any clicks other than than the one where we all have 911's. BUTT, if it'll get me a nice car like Jack's, the line forms at the from door. I've got the ChapStick in hand.

I was hoping to put a little smile on your face with a little play on words while asking a serious question. I did have fun reading all the responses. Man I wish I had more free time to contribute (sarcasm).

Jack, remove the topic, before this turns into a swampmonster thread. Hurry!

Wow...so many pages for so little......honestly some of you guys need to get out and drive, play with your family and friends and maybe work too. Too much time on the computer I think.

Move this thread to OT, Even in jest, the flames are pretty unimpressive.

I admire everyone on this board and love reading thru all the different posts. The one thing that stands out about this board - the quality of the information (FROM EVERYONE) and the general interaction with everyone. BUT I gotta say this thread became ridiculous real quick.

OT NOW PLEASE.................

Cheers
Mark

Cool

I think that part of what made this subject is those that stayed away from it...and this subject may have proved the point that to be a true philosopher all you have to do is hate some one else's type of thinking..go figure.................R

This thread should have been moved to OT days ago. Jack is a nice guy, as are 99 % of the posters on this board. He has a really nice P-Car as do many of the members of this board. As Jack said, he gets a lot of notice because he is a high profile member of this board and he post lots of pics on here. Many members of this board have done some really awesome things with their p-cars, it just isn't their nature to post zillions of pictures and to keep us informed of every step of their progress. I enjoy seeing the pics when people do post and am always amazed at what many members of this board have done to their cars..............

I'm not really convinced this is sufficiently off topic, at least compared to some other surviving threads, to be moved but I also have suspicions regarding moderators' agendas.

I do want to say (being an ass-kisser and all) that I have very much appreciated Jack. First, Jack had the guts to buy an old 911 and drive it cross-country to bring it home. Brave. Jack also had the resourcefulness to find and utilize the help of this board, even as early as the cross-country trip which was not uneventful. Smart. Jack writes real good. articulate. And last but not least, Jack is circumspect and compassionate about other people, both in the micro and macro sense. Leave it at that.

Thanks, Jack, for taking up space. You're one of the good passengers on The Ball.

Oh, and I also share his afffection for Jaguars, having cut my (early drivers' experience) teeth in an XKE back in '69. Wonderful road cars that should have come equipped with fire extinguishers.

Hello - I have a question about the 916 Replica that
Kurt B included a picture of earlier in this thread.

He said, "it was Caffee's 916 rep" .

Who is Caffee? And how/where do I see more pictures of his 916 replica?

TIA,

Scott
