Here goes; Top Threads of 2011.
I couldn't find any early 2.4 Targas that went 165 MPH, but there were a few.
|
Well the number one thread is no doubt the number one thread with more posts than all others. The brotherhood of the Stijn is strong.
|
I think another strong brotherhood thread was my " I think I had a stroke" thread. the first responders and the continued outpouring of concern and good will. As long as I live,(could be tomorrow), I will never forget you all for the thread.

Who's Who of Pelican brought us together
|
I was trying to find the jet-@%&*black armorall the treads post. That was my favorite one but it might have been from an earlier year. anyone have the link?

On a much less severe level I received a lot of support through some trying times for me via this board. This is a great place... |

Yea the stijn thread has grown fast over the past couple years......look at the ratio of views to posts though on the chest thread :-)
|
Damn you Zeke!
I started the same thread yesterday http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/647990-best-2011-a.html I only had one reply. :( Damn you and your sharp witt and good looks. ;) |
In a strange twist I rather like the threads that cause mean people to get banned. Does that make me bad?
But I really like the threads that have people reaching out to the community and receiving what they seek. Targa gives the community great thanks for helping but dude you're the one who reached out. You gave the community a chance to be a real part of your life. |
oh this community is very much a part of my life. I mean think about it, if wayne just pulled the plug on all this tomorrow, how much we would all lose. I really think this place saved my life really. You don't forget stuff like that.

Strong "1" to this!

I've got lots of interests and hobbies and I've tried many different online resources and forums, but the gun, drums, homebrewing, ammo reloading, MazdaSpeed3, etc... forums do not compare to this one and they never hold my interest. I've been here since 6/2002 and have learned a great deal from you folks and I've truly enjoyed my time here!

A lot of funny and crazy threads this year, but the top honors have to go to Targa's "Stroke" thread and the loss of Lisa Spyder thread. It really demonstrates the deep feeling and respect the people on this BBS have for one another, even though we don't always show it at times.
Happy New Year one and all! |
The "Magnus Walker" thread.

what about the vanishing "moral/legal conundrum" thread? I hoped to learn the legal angles on the situation and then 'poof' it went "tirty point buck"...gone.

Without you guys, I would NEVER have Parkerized my old M1911A1. I wouldn't have replaced the engine in my '74 911, etc....
|
I ditto all of the above, a very special place and special people. Do we make a small donation to Wayne to keep this going? Or does he thrive on the entertainment and educ. info like I do?
|
Wayne provides this as a place for people to learn how to fix their cars...
If you are fixing a car, you need parts..... Most of us buy our parts from Wayne, which is how he funds the forums... |
Well, I conclude that there were no great 2011 threads beyond what has been mentioned. So the thread now becomes some kind of group hug.
OK with me. Just don't expect to hug Wayne. He tolerates it. From time to time when he's in the mood, he will discuss things here. |
krikey Zeke, can't you at least give the group 24 hours to respond? It was New Years Eve last night, there's bound to be a hangover or two laying low (I was a designated driver).

Livi's Who's Who would be my vote. It is nice to see who are behind all of the avatars.

It certainly wasn't a year to try and buy a Ferrari 348.

Definitely really enjoy the "Round Table" discussions here with 99% of you. I have received excellent advice regarding professional conundrums to personal financial issues, the loss of both my father and mother in the last few years, investment advice, conversations about the car business, etc, etc. I also enjoy the humor that is often injected. Some witty Pelicans out there!
Case in point: When I moved and my lawn mower was stolen and I was composing a 'rant' - I was really p*ssed off - someone here posted an ad for a lawn mower for sale!! When I read that I LMFAO!! It made my day! Made me forget about how stupid that was. For me it is like sitting down with a good cup of coffee every morning with many different professionals from all walks of life and experiences to discuss current events in the news. I will tell you that often someone here knows of major events or gossip before it goes national. When I regurgitate that news other people seem to think I have 'connections' with inside news sources. Like - "How did you know that before anyone else?" Most recent of these was when one Pelicanite reported that the "Walking Dead" would return last fall and possibly the winter season - all true because they worked on the set or personaly knew someone who did. Also big news here before anywhere else was when Keith Richards was going to be in one the "Pirates" movies - and was. Through the classifieds; I have met many great Pelicans where many took pitty on me early on and gave me great deals on parts that I would have otherwise not have been able to afford. The one of many that stand out was when I dis-assembled my 3.2 only to find the case had been damaged beyond use. A guy in Texas sold me a virgin case for $750 including shipping!! Not only that but it was a complete engine and he was willing to part it out!! I then paid that forward by selling parts I no longer needed at a steal. In my on-going resto I have been able to source every thing I needed through Pelican, one way or another. It has been a priceless "well of information" In short - I love you guys, I enjoy 'our' time together because the discussions keep my mind active AND entertained. I plain just feel smarter. |
|
Yes I definitely feel smarter using this forum as with "asphalt". I used to believe in the go it alone approach. Eg. I bought a 95 AWD Chrysler Voyager Van thinking that the Chrysler was the way to go as there were more of these vans around than anything else. I sold it at 100k miles as the van was costing me $100/month to keep on the road. Meanwhile I end up with a 2001 Boxster that essentially costs me about $200 to keep on the road but is way more fun. I pretty much consult u all before I do anything except go to the bathroom:D.

..........here ya go (turning my man-card over and in)

I personally enjoyed the Who's Who. It's always nice to put a name with a face.
