Apple laptop question

I have three Apple laptops and I am trying to open a disk (marked DVD-R) that has pictures on it, normal jpg format. It will open on one of the Apple laptops but not the other two. States that I have inserted a blank DVD on the two. Any suggestions on how to get the computer to recognize the disk?

The one computer that recognizes the disk is an Apple MacBook and when inserted the disk symbol will appear on the screen and i can click and open to view the pictures. On the other two computers I can't even find the files or the disk, other than the screen message. What am I missing?

Any options??

The DVD-R is 4.7 GB Data.

One laptop is a Powerbook G4, pre 2006 and the MacBook Pro is mid 2008. The one that can read the disk is 2011 MacBook, only 8 months old.

The 08' is a superdive, it should be able to read it, however if it was burned at a high speed on a newer machine you can sometimes have problems. The G4 we would have to get down the part number on the DVD drive to check it.

The mid 08 supports DVD-R as well as DL discs.

You positive it's not an 06 box? Maybe it was NOS? MA609LL, MA610LL, MA611LL/A are 06 designations.

06 and earlier Superdrives do not support DVD-R and DL

Think I'll just do a drag and drop to a thumb drive and be done with it. I'm surprised the 2008 can't read the disk but guess that's teling me it's time for a new computer.

Just had it to Apple store for a recall on the graphics card and they said mid 08, otherwise they wouldn't have done the recall.

This is the info on the DVD.

Really no reason to get rid of the 08' if it's still working well for you. I watch movies on a 08' Macbook, listen to music, still very viable, well for me anyway. I've also had the nvidia recall done on it, knock on wood I suppose.

If you go Apple Icon->About This Mac then hit More info under Hardware->Disc Burning it will list the drives capabilities.

Yes, the computer works fine otherwise. I just transfered some of the pics on a thumb drive, not a big deal. When I run into a situation like this it is usually because I am overlooking something. Thanks for the assistance.

Looks like the disc was not "closed", finalized when it was burned.

When you don't close the session on a disc, which makes any unused space on the disc go bye bye, you will more often than not have problems with the disc in a drive other than the one that wrote to it last.

OK, thanks again. Just got a message from the fellow that sent the disk and he said he did not format for Apple, don't know if that makes any difference. as mentioned we can get the pics by opening on my wife's computer. No big deal any more. Appreciate the assistance.
