If insulated with foam, the shed will probably have to have an interior shell which is resistant to both sulfuric acid and fire, perhaps stainle$$.

There should also be an external shutoff, as well as a diode or two to keep it from backfeeding into the county lines and frying working linesmen during an outage.

Mabye it can be buried below the frost line in a concrete pit with passive vent lines?
Concrete leaches heat from the interior into the 4ft of frozen ground and should be insulated on the outside.
Below that, it is a constant 50deg or so.
I've been thinking tonight on how to do this, the inside of the house is kept around 50 deg by the furnace. However it's been out before for a few weeks while I couldn't get up there. Maybe I can pass a vent from the house to the enclosure. Have to check on this since the out-gassing from the charging is why it's outside in the first place.

I'm worried about leaving any type of heating system unattended but maybe there is something safe out there.

Sorry to hijack.

Not a hijack at all.

For solar power to exist in the northern climates, there has to be a simle, reliable system that works out of the box.

This is a typical problem for many tens of thousands of homeowners.
