I bound out of bed at 6:00 AM most days. I love the daylight hours especially in the spring and fall. I turn into a pumpkin at 10:30. I have not stayed up to see midnight on New Years eve since 2000, and that was just to see the world blow up due to Y2K. Nothing happened so I was asleep by 12:30.

Always have been much sharper, much more productive during the morning hours.

So I'm working a typical copy editor's shift at the paper, which is like 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., which means I have to work especially hard to maintain my edge.

Ironic, really.

Morning person all my life, but maybe getting less so now.

In grade school i used to shower then go and wake up my dad. My group of friends used to walk to school and get there an hour before school started. No idea why.

A few years ago I got serious about exercising and was up around 4:30.

When need be I can be marginal nightowl, but i usually end up shutting down by 3:00. And the next day is horrible, but mainly because I cannot sleep past 7:30 to save my life.

When it is time to go to sleep I am asleep in minutes.

Indeed I am substantially more venerable. Thanks for noticing.

I used to be much more of a night owl. As a younger man. Today, after 54 trips around the Sun, I go to bed somewhat early. The real reason for this is that I cannot seem to "sleep in" and so, the only way to get something close to eight hours is to start sleeping early.

All in all though, I don't feel tired. I don't sleep nearly as much as I used to, but I feel rested.

Morning. Usually up at 6:30 on weekends, 4:30 during the week. When I'm up, I'm ready to go. I drink coffee but usually don't finish the cup, just hit the ground running. I like to be in bed by 9:30, so I can be kind of a party pooper.

It's 1:50AM (says it all for me) in this part of the world. I'd better try and go to sleep again - have to be up at 5AM

Now I'm not a morning or night person. Just a day person. Sun goes down, I'm down. Sun up, I'm up. Not before.

PM. I drag myself out of bed in the morning, and even now that I've been up for three hours (coming up on 10am here), I still feel like I'm not really awake yet.

I was the youngest child, so I remember having to go to bed first and hearing everybody else still up talking, living it up, having a great time. I felt like I was missing out on all the fun.

Now, I typically have no desire to go to bed unless the rest of the world has wound down. Most days that just means my wife. If I'm really tired and try to go to sleep before her I can't sleep. I'll toss and turn until she finally comes to bed, then I can fall asleep.

When we go camping with family or friends I usually stay up until everybody else is asleep and then I feel peaceful and go to bed. I really enjoy the quiet stillness that comes in the early AM when you're one of the few still up. It's not like I'm consciously thinking "I won't go to bed until I'm last because I don't want to miss anything" but I think subconsciously that's what is going on. Also, when we're over at friends' houses I usually hang out until everybody has left, then I feel like the party is over and it's time to go.

My wife makes fun of me. I can't say that I blame her.

What really sucks is that I have to get up usually by 6:30am for work and have pretty much lost my ability to sleep in, even on weekends. When camping, it's not rare for me to be the first one up. The quiet stillness of the morning is quite nice as well. But I don't function, I just kind of sit there.

I'm not sure how one would define this:

My situation for work would be:
wake up and start work very early (be at work by 7am or earlier),
work until mid-afternoon
take a break/nap of roughly 2-3 hours,
continue work until mid-evening,
have a late dinner,
and go to sleep around 1am.

This gives me around 6 to 7 hours of sleep in every 24, but broken into (2) pieces roughly 12 hours apart.

Am I a morning AND a night person? Morning person for work, night person for myself?

I have to be to work by 8:00 (7:00 in the summer when I don't have to drop Em off) but I have stayed up beyond the wee hours reading if it is a good book or some b grade sci-fi movie is on (a weakness of mine). Our LAN parties used to start at 6:00pm of Fridays and go until mid morning the next day and the giddyness would start about 3:00am. I have always been a night owl, but those Sunday afternoon naps are becoming more appreciated as I age.

Craigster and I are in the same Biz. We work odd hours. For me my shows start usually at 06:30 or so, but I have some that will start on the 7th or 8th day of an episode that have crew calls on a Friday at 3:00PM for stage work. Some Saturday mornings I don't get home from work until sunrise. Having said that, I'm normally up at 06:00 and in bed by 9:00 PM if I have a choice.

No kidding Hugh, I avoid any of those "Twilight/ True Blood" shows like the plague. Anytime vampires are involved you know you're working a lot of nights.
