Propofol give the best 10 minute sleep I get every 10 years. Until today, that is, when i got an hour nap while having my gallbladder removed.

I had it done this morning.

I intentionally did NOT click on this thread before getting it done, figuring it would be a bunch of horror stories.

It was very simple.

The day before, I ate only a very light breakfast. Then just water and broth.

The "stuff" they gave was called Suprep. Drank it at 6 pm. It was fine. It didn't taste horrible, I had no problem guzzling the diluted total of 24 ounces at once. Drank another 32 ounces of water over the next 20 minutes, easy.

Had to of course evacuate for the next few hours, but it wasn't bad. Pretty quickly was just lightly tinted water. Maybe 7-8 trips to the can. No biggie.

But 8 is was mostly over, by 9 pm it was completely over.

Went to sleep at 10. Woke up at 3 am b/c had to do a second dosing, which I did at 4 a.m.

That one was done by 6, so I went to sleep again until around 7:30. (So, basically I got a full night's sleep).

At the hospital, they gave me what must have been a very light sedative. I was out for maybe 10 minutes, but then fully awake for 20 or more minutes of the procedure. I mean FULLY awake. Watched it on the monitor, chatted with the Dr. and nurses.

No pain, no discomfort. He said people do it with no sedation at all. I'd be tempted to try it next time.

By the time I left the hospital 30 minutes later, I felt 100% normal.

So, 10/10 would recommend.

(I'd also recommend Suprep for the bowel prep. My insurance covered it 100%, but I think it's $150-$200, so others might not cover it).

I don't know what sedation they used, BTW, but I'm pretty sure there was not an anestesiologist present. I had two little tubes in my nose (which I think was just oxygen), no mask.

It was just the Dr. who did the exam, and two nurses.

The only problem I ever had with proprofol was the urge to wear only one glittery glove and walk backwards.

Yeehaw, my first time is tomorrow.

Got my prep solution in the fridge chilling for later today. I was told by the pharmacist that it's easier to drink if ice cold. No solid foods until after the procedure.

I'll be 50 in April but they want to check it out after my bout with diverticulitus back in October. I haven't had any issues since but figured I may as well just get it over with.

Just did it. Yeah, the prep was bad (Suprep), but not unbearable. Had a grape-like smell that quickly deteriorated into plain nastiness. Next time I will chill it even more.

Duly noted!

I went 72 hours without food when I was in the hospital so the next 24 won't be a big deal.

Cool. That was pretty easy. No issues that the doc found I don't need another for 3 years. He did suggest I take 25-30mg of fiber daily. He removed 1 polyp that will get biopsied but he didn't foresee an issue.

He was even cool enough to play The Who on his IPod. Keith Moon is his favorite drummer.

Wayne,

Consider this. A typical colonoscopy interval is 10 years. 5 if your old and have indicators such as family history.

3 years is like-'we better keep an eye on this'.

Drummers are prone to sphincter issues.

3 years is unusually soon for another one.

I was curious about your comments so I asked my wife exactly what he said. The reason for the shorter interval is due to the diverticulosis.

It's probably a good thing they suggest having someone with you when they discuss the procedure.

It is good news Crowbob.

My primary doc was concerned about what damage had occurred when I had the attack back in October. He had prepared me for the possibility of having to have portions of the intestine and/or colon cut out.
