Those are such gorgeous cars, the perfect emobodiment of a an old school man's man Grand Touring. They're just affordable enough to be tempting then I read a Michael Sheehan article about their maintenance costs and . Of course, I'm just being a p**sy, go for it, I'm sure you won't regret it!

I heard of a guy that owns an entire freaking car parts company -- warehouses full... he goes and buys an Fcar... pretty soon he has gotten rid of it...

but it is beautiful!

He doesn't own hardly any of the parts you buy. They're all drop-shipped. And that was a 308.

I say do it too. If your other responsibilities are in order, why not? Everyone should own one once, no?

I think you'd wear it well. These are the "Gentlemen's Ferrari's", and there is a special place in my heart for front-engine V-12 F-cars.

I think that it would be a great car to have in Europe with the Autobahns, Auto stradas, etc. I checked out the price of admission.....pretty attractive. Judging by the almost unanimous ultra low mileage on them, I would hazard a guess that the price per mile is rather daunting for most. (even the MPG at 8.1 (at Euro price for gas) would cramp many peoples style) Awfully nice looking car though and the Ferrari sound track can't be beat. As was said earlier, you only go round once. Good luck

My friend had one. One summer he managed to only drive it a mere 100kms. Always needed something, and of course the dealership didn't stock that something. And generally that something took WEEKS to come in. So he sold it. Ended up with a 911 TT with a Gemballa package on it....

Read this long term test if you want to be amused: Long-Term Test: 2001 Ferrari 550M Maranello

A few years ago when I was racing karts and building the 930 engine my wife asked if I was having a mid-life crisis. I said you'll know when I have my mid-life crisis because I'll pull up in car with a prancing horse on the hood.

As much as I like the sound of a screaming Ferrari V8, I think Ferrari's should have V12's. The 575 is on my mid-life wish list. I'll be 50 in 5 years so I need to get cracking on increasing my garage space

I have been trying to come up with a list of reasons why you shouldn't but the list is still blank . . .

Have you never pulled up in your 930, or does your 930 not have an emblem on the hood? Go take a look a little more closely.

The 550 was one of my favorite cars as a teen, until I saw one in person, just too huge for my tastes. There is a red one around here that I always see on multilane roads, and it looks better in a larger environment.

I tried a 575 before deciding (not) to buy it. Lovely car, had everything I wanted, right colors, etc. Then the owner (who owns various other F cars) told me what he would do to the car (which he bought brand new and drove for 9K miles) starting with repainting a lot of interior parts where the plastic had started to get "sticky", then replacing fuses and cleaning contacts as "they are finicky" and then came the his question: "do you have at least $1/mile to maintain it?"

Simple math he said, every 15K miles I take my cars over to Shelton Ferrari and the bill is $15K minimum.

I decided that my money was better spent on a car from Stuttgart. But, I still lust for that 575.
