Austinites, Where is the best BBQ in Town?
Going to be in Austin soon for a conference and I would really like to try some authentic Texas BBQ.
Any suggestions on where to go and what to try?

We were just there, if you can get a few miles out of town, go to Lockhart and hit Kreuz or Smitty's Markets.
We hit Kreuz, Salt Lick, and Rudy's, and Kreuz won by a fair amount. Salt Lick was pretty good too though. There are probably also hole in the walls that others could point out.

The Slat Lick
Rudy's Stubbs if you want some live music to go with it.

country line is good, but for my money you can't be Rudy's ..
Just got a care package from my friend in Austin from Coopers also really good. Salt Lick is over rated IMHO

County line, Rudy's, Salt Lick, Ruby's ( I hear, though never been there).
Salt lick is good and an experience: don't pass on that.

I live a couple miles from the Salt Lick and it is one of the most popular based on the never ending crowd.... Their ok in my opinion. Rudy's, Iron Works, Stubs are all good.
There is a newer place downtown named Franklins that is supposed to have the best brisket in the world. I haven't been yet since you have to start lining up around 9am and wait a couple hours if you want to get any that day. |

After spending the last few years in Austin.... Salt Lick is good but over rated. Rudy's is good, but it is the same stuff I find in a BBQ place anywhere in or out of Texas. County Line is the best, I have only been to the one off of Hwy 2222 and 360. They have the largest/best beef ribs I have seen, coleslaw and beans are out of the ordinary. Go to County Line.

Yes & Yes: Iron works & Franklins: there's a line out the door an hour before they open each Saturday (at least).
Rudy's has the best pork ribs, County line beef ribs are unreal.

I eat at Stubbs most of the time and it's not quite as good as some of the others, but the SERRANO CHILE AND CHEESE SPINACH at Stubbs is probably the best side dish in the whole wide world.

I've yet to try some good authentic BBQ. We just don't have them up here like you guys. I've been dying to try some. It sounds sooooooo good. I've thought about buying one of those good smokers they sell down there but seems like it is a reaL art to cook up the good stuff .Takes a lot of practice . |

Stay close to James, Sid, when you can snatch the pebbles from his hand you can return to OK
